Hi all. I recently passed my theory and yesterday passed my CBT. I am wanting to now go for my full licence.

I'm 39 and wanting to go for the full unrestricted one. Have put it off for years but now is the time.

My question is - how do I book the mod 1 and 2 tests?

I mean...I know how to book them...but there are seemingly no slots....at all....ever?! (Online, I haven't rang the phone nunber)

I've looked at both for the rest of the year and there are no slots showing up at all for my area (North East).

Someone said that the training schools pre-book them? But the guy I'm with doesn't, he says it's down to me? (He's just a one man band kinda thing, not a training school with multiple staff)

Someone else also said that slots are released at a certain day/time? But I don't know when that is.

Can anyone give me some advice on this? Many thanks.

If its going to be months before I can do it, I'll get a 125 and get some real world experience in beforehand / during.

Many thanks.

I can't really help, but my instructor booked all mine for me. As I was using there bike and a little bit of training from them.
I would have thought you'd be able to book yourself. But do you have a bike to use? And be able to get it to both test centers on your own if you're not going with the instructor. If youre going with him on one of his bikes I'd expect him to sort it.

Hope that makes sense as I'm rambling a little

My instructors booked mine and were able to get me in at pretty much anytime I was available so I guess they did pre-book.

They did say that after Easter (Ish) time things got tighter with how many people then wanted to take tests

Seems a bit rubbish that the current one doesn’t at least help you get booked in and I assume you need their bike to be there? I found the instructors had a brilliant rapport with the examiners too, I like to think that the examiners might feel that the instructors churn out good applicants?

No no, I agree with you - and that's what someone I know has said but he quite flatly said no, he doesn't do that. Although I would be using his bikes, yes.

Maybe just do 1 day of mod 1 training with a company that does block book…then use them for mod 2. I only did 1 full day of mod 2 training then 1 hr in the morning before the test and passed first time.

I used Ridesure in Dunsfold if you are anywhere near Guildford.

As above, my training school booked mine.
I had a 6 session package for Mod 1 & 2 which included the tests. I think they were pre booked when paying for the course of tuition.
I did mine in May/June last year, they said it was busy for motorcycle tests at that point.

It seems odd that the instructor isn’t block booking tests. If you book the test how will you know if he’s available to escort you to the test centre on one of his bikes?

I passed with a one man band and he was able to get tests slots at fairly short notice, eg two days after I passed Mod 1 he was able to get me in for Mod 2.

Have you spoken to A1 Motorbike Training up by the Metrocentre?

They should be able to sort you out.

Pity you aren't my way. My DA instructor is DAS/Blue ribbon etc qualified and very patient.

Motorcycle tests are released weekly for ten weeks time.
They initially open for training schools at 7am, who will hoover up most of them by 7:01. Training schools do have a limit so there should be a few left. "opening day" is different for test locations.

I believe that the remainder will become open to the public at 6am the next morning. At my test centre there are usually a couple left at this point. Whilst they may all be gone by 6:01, schools can return unwanted tests, so tests become randomly available at almost any time, as students cancel etc. We check 3 times a day across the 10 weeks and pick up a few more mainly for people who need a re-test after failing.

Which specific test centres are you looking for and I'll look what days that centre opens it's bookings.

Odd that your trainer can neither book, nor give you any proper advice. When I say "odd" I am being polite... I assume he is a qualified DVSA accessed instructor?
