Hi guy's and girls I ted and I'm new to the forum and I'm in real need of some help.
I've just gone and got a Kawasaki zx9r c2 model a couple of weeks ago.
Recieved the logbook today to find this in the special notes part of the logbook--This vehicle has been salvaged because the estimated cost of commercial repair was more than the value of the vehicle-- does this mean the bike is a write off and isn't road worthy or something can someone please shed some light on my dilemma

No it just means the cost to repair was higher than the value of the bike. The previous owner may have repaired it w second hand parts in his own time.
ETA welcome to ph : )

Or in other words, YES, it has been written off.

However, that does not necessarily mean it's unsafe or not roadworthy. Although it may be.

These are the type of thing one usually checks before making a major purchase.

This could’ve been found out before buying with an HPI check. Always HPI check.

Was this mentioned in any of the adverts? If not you may have a grounds for return, if it was not disclosed and the price not adjusted accordingly. Will be easier if a trade sale, but not impossible if private. Good luck.

Thanks for the replys guys and yes I should of done a hpi check I no I've had are lass busting my chops about it.
Am I right in thinking if it was a write off dvla wouldn't of issued me a logbook.
The bike its self looks fine only things I've had to do was replace the fork seals and change the air filter and repair the right side panels as it had scratches on it the previous owner did say it had been dropped

Its a bike. Dropping it off the side stand could mean all the panels need replacing. Expensive if replacements are from Kawasaki. But cheaper to buy second hand and replace yourself.

Or its a complete write off with non matching VIN numbers

Too extremes, hopefully nearer the first

Frame numbers are all intact and match what's on the logbook along with engine numbers and reg

No, in the case of an economical write off they’ll issue you a logbook. There are different degrees of write off with economical being the most minor.

If its a CAT S or N then no, they will give you a logbook.

Only if the car/bike is badly damaged can it not go on the road.

If it came from a dealer, send it back.
If its private sale I suspect you may have to suck it up.

All I no about the bike is the previous owner said it had been dropped.
It as a valid mot.
And I now have the full logbook that match the reg / frame and engine numbers.
So dvla must of ran a VIC to check that the bike as been repaired properly and is safe to be pug back on the road again

Then thats probably why then. The moron must have claimed on the insurance. Anything more than a couple of years old with damaged plastics would be an economic write off.

"Written off" doesn't mean dangerous or unrepairable. Just that the insurance company decided it wasn't economically sensible *for them* to pay to repair it. (I think it's usually if the repair cost is over 50?% of the value. )

However, there's the risk that whoever did repair it cut corners to make it economically sensible, so definitely worth a close inspection.

Essentially yes it's been a write off so hopefully it was a bit cheaper and was probably due to the scratches you mentioned

It's probably not the end of the world as bikes can be written off with very little damage

Message me the reg and I can do an HPI (for free) to tell you the category / date

That's not how it works

A VIC check ONLY checked the vehicle ID and was abolished years ago
