I'm about to do some minor, but always reversible, updates to my 1979 BMW R45
I'll be upgrading to led lights as not a fan of the very bulky standard items.
I'm also liking the idea of bar end mirrors, wondering if anyone is able to recommend a decent set please ?

I use CRG LS Hindsight mirrors, not cheap but work really well despite being small and they fold in/out to the same position.

Hi,

I'm only posting so that I can take some suggestions on board too.
My R100 is a tad interesting to ride with no mirrors.

Looks great! Did you take the engine out / apart to paint? I'm about to start converting my R100RT to a street scrambler...

Thanks, yep the engine had to be removed. I stripped everything and painted it then sanded the cooling fins and that front stripe bit.
It's fairly easy to remove the engine, the worst bit is re-fitting the drive shaft boot onto the engine during assembly.

If you have any questions regarding your conversion please feel free to PM me, I've rewired the bike using an M-unit Blue, obviously converted the forks and brakes to run GSXR components. It's all still fairly fresh in my mind.

OP - sorry for going off-topic.

Thanks - Will do so (I've done the drive shaft boot before when lubing the splines). Sorry to OP for the mini thread-hijack!

That r100 looks amazing, ideally I'd want mine to look similar but I'm starting off with small changes for now

Those ones posted above look great, but perhaps a little out of my price range any thoughts on these ? https://www.xlmoto.co.uk/product/snell-bar-end-rea...

My grips go over the end of the bars but I'm assuming it's a Stanley knife job and just cut the end bit of rubber off to fit these ?

Thank you, yep if your grips are the closed type I tend to cut the rubber away and make sure they meet the bar end mirror snugly.
Failure to do so will allow water to seep into the grips and might allow slippage.

Thank you. Hopefully one day mine will look something close to what yours does, although I'll be sticking with the 45 engine as the bike was previously my father's to want to keep the core of it original .. although the 860 conversion kit does interest me

I've gone ahead and ordered the Snell mirrors, reviews were good and their install video made it look simple.

Will report back with the outcome

In my experience, cheap ones are rubbish. If you get them on without destroying the fittings then they'll just vibrate like crazy, right through the bars. I spent £90 on some (that wouldn't suit your bike I'm afraid) and they are miles better.

Understood, the ones I've gone for do have good reviews, given the price, £20 delivered, I thought it was worth a go, if not then I'll return these and try the hindsight or similar

As you say, trying to find some which are good quality but also suit the bike is a challenge

I've aged 40 years looking at that.

But what a beautiful bike and a great shot smile

I've removed the original mirrors in preparation for the new ones arriving, however I've now got 2 holes where the mount, don't suppose anyone knows what size bolts I need to put in to fill the holes please ?

I have ones from cnc racing. Motogadget do some really nice ones but they’re about the most expensive around.
