Bike season has begun (almost for me)
Discussion
around here it seems bike season has fully began, roads are clear of salt and crap and its getting drier. The easter egg runs brought the bikes out again.
Mine's not come out but that's only for lack of chance. My dad has just picked up a brand new RE Interceptor 650 after much nudging to just do it so really looking forward to getting out for a few rides with him. Managed to talk him out of fitting a topbox to it thankfully.
Shame is everyone else has the same ideas.I was on the snake pass yesterday in the car and there was some truly terrible riding going on. Big groups (10+) of bikes following each other round overtaking as a group on blind bends with double white lines while traffic was travelling at 50/60mph. Very much a feeling of stick with me if you can going on. Couple of times the chains of bikes and cars in the other direction ended up braking heavily to avoid head on crashes. So many road works on the only way to get clear road was to be the first to stop at the lights!
I can only imagine how my dad would have coped with the idiots had he been out on the RE, getting used to it and have those groups screaming past.
Finger crossed in a couple of weeks lunacy will have subsided and people will have remembered how to ride.
mine will be out this weekend, maybe a trip to Brid for the race the waves.
Anybody else just getting the bike out?

I was out yesterday getting miles on my brand new Monster 937.
London based and just getting out to Surrey was hard with a billion cars on the road.
All around Box Hill is 50mph average but I headed down south of Dorking and cross country to Cranleigh.
My joy to find my empty favourite Twisties had been resurfaced since my last visit. Great fun and helped by a very fast moving Mercedes estate in front as a battering ram to help me on blind corners.
Back up to Guildford and traffic plus a massive jam on the A3.
Got to see how the Monster handles dispatch rider style riding and filtering.
A fun 80 odd miles.
Day off today and the weather is good, so off out again.
SW London to W London commute for the rest of the week. Numpties and potholes to watch out for

Unfortunately big groups of knobheads like this is why it ended up 50mph average, some properly awful riding out there.Funnily enough, I went for a couple of hours ride on Saturday evening (two up, so nice and steady) and came across some of the most appalling driving I've ever seen in my life. The amount of cars straight lining multi lane roundabouts at 50 mph, emerging from side roads and causing other vehicles to brake or go onto the opposite side of the road, straying all over the road (on phones I guess). All things that you see occasionally, but to see so much of it when the traffic was very light was bonkers.
I put it down to a combination of a lovely sunny evening and little traffic.

Managed to get a ride out last Sunday from My Moto Derbyshire to Yondermans in Peak District. Was an arranged ride with about 60 bikes but turned out to be good fun! No one was daft and everyone rode with courtesy for everyone else in group. Ended up being staggered over a number of miles. After Yondermans, 3 of us headed down to Matlock Baths for some chips. Good day had.
I honestly don't get it. It's not cold all year round, it's not wet all year round and it's not salty all year round.
You get some absolutely fantastic "winter" days yet so many keep their bikes hidden away until now. Ypu get people riding like wkers because they've forgotten how to bloody ride. PCP pilots everywhere all of a sudden.

precisely why i "waste" money but leaving my bike taxed and insured all year round.You get some absolutely fantastic "winter" days yet so many keep their bikes hidden away until now. my problem is choice;
Sun comes out at the weekend I have a camper, a convertible and a bike. Currently the bike is losing with regularity as its not able to comfortably cover the distance i want 2 up.

If it's sub-10 degrees I end up cold and miserable, the roads are filthy and greasy, there's just no pleasure to be had for me.You get some absolutely fantastic "winter" days yet so many keep their bikes hidden away until now. I do the Dragon Rally each year and just did 1200 miles around Scotland in February thanks.
Well you have got me there. I like not far off Scotland and the weather is grim, the roads are covered in salt, greasy, and rarely get above freezing from the end of October until the end of February.I have a perfectly good car for the winter months.. There are plenty of bikes around where I live but no one uses them that I see apart from the odd scooter or old stter for work.
Down South seems a different country when I am down there during the winter, I'm usualy in a t shirt while all and sundry are wrapped up with scarves or hats.

Yep.
You know what its like Dave, is there even an ounce of fun during those 4 months.
Not a chance the roads are covered in a salt slurry from the first salting in November right through to April, it really is grim up north I've not even considered riding over winter for at least 20 years now, crap visibility, low sun, ste all over your visor, damage done to bike through corrosion and then there's the cold, I've solved the problem permanently now by not even having a bike You know what its like Dave, is there even an ounce of fun during those 4 months.
