The O/H wanted crash protection for her RC390. Having seen the prices of R&G sliders - £250, plus the fact they use the two engine mounts which I wasn't happy about, she opted for these.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/155476869967?_trkparms=...

For the music in the installation video alone I wouldn't have got them but she is concerned about dropping it so fair enough. They look a doddle to fit, so I went to do it last night.

The right side seems to fit spot on, however the left.... After much confusion as no fitting instructions were sent, I've came to the conclusion that they have sent two right hand side slider mounts. The frame support offset should be mirrored as the frame is symmetrical. Am I being dense or would others agree.

If I'm honest I'm not particularly happy with these having seem them in the flesh. The right had side fouls the clutch cable, it would mean re-routing it or it'd continuously rub off the clamp. Whilst it only uses one engine mount, unlike the R&G that uses both, even that troubles me as a drop in the garage could result in a fked engine mount/frame. I get why she wants these, it's not in the event of a large speed spill more a drop, but personally I'm not a fan of crash bungs, never used them on the track as I've seen too many bikes flip as a result. Are my concerns founded.

It does look like you have 2 of the same side, I'd just be fitting case savers and bobbins on the front and rear wheels, or not bothering at all, a drop from a standstill is generally nothing to worry about and will do minimal damage, a drop/slide whilst moving is something else and I'd be more concerned about her protection rather than the bikes.

I’d have the same concerns as you. They look like a sure way to bend the frame even from a simple drop.

So the likes of GB Racing or Evotech not so something for the 390? The GB Racing bullet sliders are a much better size and shape to mitigate the chances of the bike tumbling in a slide and are a lot less muckle than any of R&G’s offerings.

I'm of the same opinion as the OP and others, anything that bolts to the frame could cause frame damage in the event of a spill. Older trellis framed Ducati's suffered from this and would split tubes where the engine mounts were for example.

Better getting engine case protection (GB racing) and fork/swingarm protection.

Personally, I would never buy eBay metal parts for any structural application. Pegs - nope. Bar risers - nope. Crash bars not as bad as no load goes into them unless you crash... but I still wouldn't buy them.

I've seen many parts made of baked bean tin metal just shear apart in normal use.

I always use parts off a reputable vendor selling stuff from a known, reputable manufacturer with a QA system, even if they cost 5x as much which they often do.

I'd not bother with frame mounted stuff either.

Set of bobbins on each axle and a pair of bar ends if compatible.

Check the price of a replacement engine casing before buying casing protectors - they look st and often don't save you much money. If you've trashed an engine case you may well also be in for new peg and levers on that side - soon mounts up - no point protecting 1/3 of what gets damaged.

If the bike gets a proper drop it'll be an insurance job and they're easy written off. If it's low speed and doesn't go through a casing etc, meh it's a first bike. Repair it when you sell it and don't worry about it til then.

Also looks like powdercoating is hiding some fairly average welding in places on those bars. I'd send them back personally.
