Hi all. Test rode a bike on 25th of March and fell for it big time. Heart ruled head and when the salesman said that a new one would be with them the next week, I decided to put down £500 deposit.

Then I get a call to say bike not turned up yet but will be ready for Sat 15th April, this Saturday. I have moved shifts round and taken time off to have this weekend and next week off to enjoy my new machine.

Not heard from dealer so I have just called him to doublecheck all ok for this Saturday and can I have details to insure it.

Just had an email to say bike still not with them, hope it's in next Tuesday and 'maybe' ready by Sat 22nd April. I'm working that weekend and the one after.

Lost all feeling of excitement, my plans in disarray and starting to think that he only said bike was quickly available to get a sale.

Anyone any idea if I'm in a position to demand my deposit back and go elsewhere?

Cheers.

Did you sign anything when you left a deposit? That should have the answer, but if there's nothing mentioned then you should have a right to get it back.

It shouldn’t really matter but personally I’d put up with it for a bike in the £7k range, if it’s north of £10k not so much.

I wouldn’t suspect any issue getting a refund, but would give them another week or two to sort it, though I’d not make any firm plans until having confirmation that it is there.

Yep true. Just annoying it first didn't turn up straightaway as implied then said it would be definitely ready and prepped for pick up this Sat, told this two weeks ago.

So I have made plans, taken time off, checked the weather smile

Now, only as I called them, to be told that they still haven't received the bike yet.

Alarms go off, have I been somewhat duped.

How many more 'delays'. My riding season these days is too short for delays smile

£11.5k, big purchase for me, thus I wanted it immediately which was implied.

My new bike was delayed a few weeks. They compensated by giving me the first 2 services for free.

I’m with you on that. They should be looking after you a bit more for that. It’s getting into first service free or other shop voucher etc.

Certainly a bit annoying but I'd bear with the dealer. You obviously want the bike and after a short while and a free first service for the delay it'll all be forgotten and you can get on with riding it. What is it anyway?

Monster 937.

Was supposed to be getting a BMW GS or Triumph Explorer as I'm getting on but tried the Ducati for a laugh and was hooked smile

As they've not delivered, then there's no reason why they shouldn't return your deposit.

However, it's a PITA when you're waiting for a new bike and the dealer/sale person are being less than forth coming. Even the threat of pulling your deposit will make the sale person take more attention.

I'd recommend making them aware that you're not happy with the delay and are very serious about cancelling as you've seen another bike which is immediately available (even if this is a white lie). This will get their attention and get you a better service. At this point you can also discuss options regarding why you should keep the deposit in play e.g. free services etc.

Good luck, hope it all works out.

Cheers,

GoM.

  • Just to add - speaking to the sales person on the phone, rather than emailing will get you what you want.

If its any consolation I think there's loads of delays getting big stuff in the country atm. Our new leccy-car has been sat at the port for weeks....

Just called to cancel order and get deposit back. Not a problem.

Brexit strikes again..... apparently.

Can't now promise a delivery.

No offer of any incentives, agreed to deposit return straight away smilefrown

The monster is a nice choice. Maybe some dealer has it in stock?

Good call there on your part then.

Sh*t conduct by the dealer though.

Gutted to be honest. Totally taken the steam out of my sails.

I have lost count of the amount of times Brexit has either genuinely screwed me over or has been used as an excuse.

Hence why I now have an Irish passport.

Anyway, must not turn this into yet another Remoaner post.

I was hoping that the dealer might let me have a spare or demo to tide me over.

Dealers have been suggesting promises but not actually making or fulfilling them for a longer time now. It's the same on the continent, and the same -I guess- everywhere else. Also, it's not new that they find some higher circumstances to blame that they can not deliver. They might even forgot to place your order. My experience is, that dealers only care to make their sale, while they don't care much else.

I've seen online that there are a couple of dealers advertising actually having a new Monster 937 variant in stock. Maybe there is one within your reach, where you could pick up your new bike and use your free time as planned? Phone them, and make sure you can have it immediately.
