Hi,

I am a Petrol Head but have for a short while a Non IC bike.

DVLA tells me its MOT has expired, well that's not true because it not been old enough for one until now.

I'm reading the GOV.UK How to test an electric bike but would like to hear from anybody on here their experience.

What I'm trying to find out is if when testing the reat brake on the rollers, it will turn the electric motor. Will this cause a problem with the bikes electrics? confused

Cheers.

I would imagine not. If this were a problem, you wouldn't be able to coast downhill.

That should be a question for the manufacturer/ importer and if it can’t freewheel without damage then you need to find a test station with a calibrated deceleration meter as they can test that way.

There is a warning in the user manual about turning off while in motion I think, I'll take a peep.

I ran a Sur Ron road legal Light Bee for a while
(50cc equivalent dirt bike - loads of fun)

I live halfway up a long hill. I would need ot recharge the removable battery in my house once a week on an evening. That is 100% state of charge. Cost me about 25p per week.

Halfway down the hill the next day the bike would throw a wobbly and show an error, but this was only ever on the day after I'd charged it... Could not work out why.

The regen was trying to shove some extra electrons into the battery, beyond it scapacity smile

Similar fault on the early Ford Mach-e things IIRC.

Fix is a small load bank to burn off heat if the battery SoC ecxeds 100%. Or as I did, ride around a bit before going down the hill.

MOT passed on the TCmax.beer

Bike Shop hadn't done one before so there were some questions they had to ask VOSA or whoever for advice about category etc.

As I understand it because the bike can be rolled when pushed (electrics on but not in READY to move mode), testing the rear brake can be done as a convential bike.

Anyway no harm done.
