The story of an absolute legend, not just of the motorcycling world but of the entire sporting world and one of the folk I'd most definitely have sat at the table for my fantasy dinner party, sat next to Murray Walker, Alan Rickman, Bruno Sacco, Billy Connolly and a few others .....

Absolute legend indeed, unfortunately he was addicted to heavy tar cigarettes from the age of ten which probably ultimately killed him,

A great rider and a very shrewd businessman, negotiating his sponsorships.

Thanks for sharing. I really enjoyed that.

He was my childhood hero and reason for my lifelong obsession with motorcycles.

Sharing the story of my brief encounter when I met him at Brands in 1983:

I sent him a ‘get well soon’ card whilst he was in hospital following the 1982 Silverstone accident (I was 5yrs old and already an avid motorcycle rider). In the paddock at Brands in 1983, I queued patently to meet him and when I finally got to the front of the queue I asked him whether he had received my card? Like a true gent who must have been aware how much this meant to me, he told me of course he received it! He then invited me over the barrier for a brief chat about his recovery and my motorcycle riding. I departed with a huge spring in my step and a subsequent life long respect for him being such a gent.

So I did meet my hero and he was everything I could have wished for!

It was another great film about a true legend.

I remember going through Liverpool Airport on the way to Spain a few years ago and a middle aged gent had a Barry Sheena Tee Shirt (the Texaco) one on.

For no reason a crowd of Oiks started to tease said man about his tee shirt. You wouldn’t have done that back in the day.
