i work in newcastle, and we had a visit from the scooter kids trying to steal someones MT-09 yesterday

How far do people go locking their bikes up?

At the mo, i have an oxford disk lock, a magnum collosus chain with squire padlock, and now a cheapish lever lock thanks to our security team.

so last night i'm browsing the pragmasis website and halfords trying to figure out what else i can stick on the bike to make it less attractive to the thieves (tiger 800, thats not been washed iny ears, and looks like its been dragged out of a swamp at the moment, thanks winter!)

do i start buying 18mm chain and more expensive padlocks, bigger disk locks and who knows what else, or do i keep is sensible to what i have already?

Put as much effort into securing the building the bike is in as well as the bike, door anchors, alarms and wondow bars.

Once they are inside , they have as much time to tackle the locks as they need.

It its outside, lock it from many points to immovable objects. iE porch frame, gate post etc and fit a ground anchor inside and out. A friend of mine locked his bike to an old engine block, didnt lock great but no one touched his bike again…

Sorry, just gathered this was at your place of work.

Ask if they will let you fit a ground anchor or get it attached to something fixed and solid.

If it's locked and ideally alarmed I suspect a dirty Tiger is already pretty safe

A lot of people are using Airtags or Android equivalent - I'm about to buy some for my stock as a safety net

I had to re-read several times before I concluded it was away from home also.

A ground anchor at work, or something solid you can lock the bike to would be a start, likewise you could purchase multiple chains/locks and if there was such a place at work leave them there either in the office or locked to the secure item.

Ultimately the more deterrents you can put in place, locks, disk locks, chains, alarms it will all consume time and there is more chance of getting caught, are there any other bikes you park next to, i.e. make your bike less attractive to steal than another bike, do you park in a visible location at work?

How secure is the work carpark? is there any 'quick win' on that front in either the form of parking the bikes out of sight or a barrier/gate to restrict entry?

Other than that what the good chaps above posted is about all you can really do - ultimately all security measures are just a form of delaying or deterring thieves.
