I might have some spare time coming up at the beginning of April and I'm trying to decide where to go on my bike. I need to narrow down the areas to research as I'm not getting very far at the moment. Spain/Portugal springs immediately to mind but I'm not sure what parts will be suitable in April time. Is Northern Spain, eg the Picos, worth concentrating on, or better to just head south as fast as possible??

In short summary...April in Picos is likely to be wet and chilly. Good chance of new or standing snow.

In North you are surrounded by Picos to west and Pyrenees to the east.. bringing chance of bad weather.

April however is 4 weeks long so are you thinking March end or May end?.

If it was me and it has been on several occasions I would go South ASAP

The epic N260 road across the Pyrenees is likely to have snow issues at that time of year, plus rain and fog. I'd head south and get a ferry to Mallorca personally.

Sounds like further south is the way to go then. I'm not sure that part of the country has quite the same allure though, possibly because I just don't know much about it from a motorbiking point of view.

Not keen on the idea of additional ferries as I'll be spending a long time on them getting to/from Santander. Thanks for the suggestions tho.

I'll concentrate my research on the south, so thanks all!

Not the same allure?.... the whole country is a bikers paradise. Have a look at a map and pick out the national parks any one of them will be to your enjoyment. I will give you a starter for 10..research 'Ruta de Silencio' around Teruel. It us magnificent and there are hundreds like it. I will be amazed if this thread doesn't fill up with people giving you routes and there won't be one the same. Enjoy!!

Well that's certainly good to hear! The more I'm finding out, the more promising it sounds. I've found some entire touring holiday itineraries on the Ride magazine website, which look very helpful for a numpty like me - https://www.ride.co.uk/routes-content/spain-and-po.... Their 'Andalusia High Mile Tour' might be a good starting point. Lots more reading to do...

I did roughly that 4000 mile Grand tour one in June but added another six days and a few more miles on. Hard days but so enjoyable. Hotels are cheap and good ones are plentiful.

When are people suggesting for good weather then? This thread has inspired to visit Spain again, after my last disaster in 2016 when Spain/France had all the floods.

I’m thinking about staying in one hotel for a week as a base, I’ve always travelled around but fancy simplifying it this time if it works, I’m leaning towards staying in Sort at the moment?!
