Yup, that's exactly what I thought when I first saw it!They didn't sell at all well in the last few years.
Lovely looking bike though!

That’s pretty much the going rate for one. An early one can be worth a lot more £30K plus, where as the MHR is around 8k to 10K less unless it’s one of the first 200. If you feel brave look at the price of a 750ss they’re astronomic!
Find me all the MHRs at that price and I'll buy them all, they generally go for around 15K. BTW the SS900 in the pic is far from standard, wrong colour for an 81 etc. They are all starting to fall in value now, like all classics, even Vincents are getting cheaper.Merch131 said:

I don't think the prices are falling across the board, I think the market's changing. Originality and unusual is now what is selling for a premium. Restored bikes are noticeably struggling and patination and even older restorations are strong. Also 'good' things are still fetching good prices. Vincents are dropping for some, but look at the results for the special/rare/very original things and they're still pretty eye-watering. I suspect that's partly because there are a few big Vincent collectors out there and they have almost all of the models and are now seeking things out to make their collections better, whether that's a specific one-off or even the earlier prewar stuff.
Things like RS frame Velocettes are cheap as chips now, same for things like Goldstars and Triumph twins. In fact a lot of the sixties stuff is struggling while prewar bikes are still keen.
I did hear a rumour of a $17k Velocette Vogue selling at Mecum this week but I can't find any evidence

Rubbish, I bought a W reg 900SS brand new in August 1980, and it was that colour with those wheels.Sold it 3 years later for £1500. Ho hum.
Ducati remind me of honda. They could replicate 900ss styling on a retro bike but they only seem capable of making things unauthentic with some flash modern feature.
Honda are always making naked 4 cyc 1100/1300 etc bikes which dont look like the original stubby looking cb750 you want them to make. Intstead its all oiltanker length and stying that doesnt fit any era.

(It currently has a two piece faring fitted as the one piece is an absolute PITA for servicing) It also has a stainless steel exhaust system.
Apart from the winter/ economy affects I’ve not seen much movement in prices. The late 70’s early 80’s Italian and Japanese stuff is at peak mid life crisis purchase age now. Late fifties to sixties, purchasing their youth. ( he said looking to justify buying another bike)
Maybe the Vincent’s etc are now just getting to the too old, age bracket, sold the collection. Although every era will have bikes that will always be valuable.

I think that’s what I said? This 900ss is £25K, MHRs go for 8k to 10k less, equals £15K to £17k, which is what you said? The only exception is a genuine first 200 MHR with the one piece fairing and the fibreglass tank cover and gold brakes. they are £25K plus.

Yes your right, read it as MHRs were 8K, not 8K less than 900SS. As owners die off, prices will fall apart from the super rare models that are kept in Museums and large private collections as investments. We all want the bikes we could never afford when we were young, so fast forward thirty or forty years and we go out and buy the bike we always wanted. I only waited 15 years to get a black and gold 1978 900SS lol.. My MHR is an early mk2, has the one piece, early brakes but the metal tank.
