Hi All,

I live near Sevenoaks in Kent and have a problem with my bike that I can't fix and need a specialist for but am coming up blank with on-line searches.

I have a Honda VTR1000 SP2 that has a non-functioning speedometer. These bikes have a fairly basic digital dash (built in 2002) but everything on it (revs, engine temp, warning lights etc) work but the speedometer doesn't. I got the bike from a family member who can no longer talk to me about the bike. It has a speed-healer fitted as it is running non-standard sprockets. I have replaced the speedometer sensor from the crank case and no joy. I also have a replacement dash panel but it's brand new in the box and worth a lot of money so don't want to experiment (and put any miles) on that if it isn't needed.

So I'd like to take it to someone I can trust and who knows about electrics as well as mechanics. I don't want to take it to the Honda dealer as I imagine they won't have a clue and I'll end up replacing everything in sight! So, does anyone know a trustworthy place in north/west Kent or east Sussex of south east London areas?

Thanks in advance.

I'd suggest the 'speed healer' is probably the prime suspect for beginning your elimination process! If you know where it is, reinstate the original wiring (bypassing the speed healer) so it is back to standard form and take it from there. It shouldn't be too difficult, but it may be a bit time consuming.

Definitely this.

Take the speedo healer out of circuit and retry. 85% that's the source of the fault if the crank sensor is ok
