Good evening all

Bike I am talking about > 2008 Aprilia Shiver 750

Very new to these 2 wheel monsters so this could be a stupid question.

From cold bike splutters and then starts but only with 13.7v-14.0v. Anything less and it just splutters.
When bike is warmed up, the bike can start and stop no problem.

Before I take it somewhere any ideas?

I'd check all the connections on the starter first, then maybe a new battery (or rather, borrow one from a car and some jump leads)

Sounds like a battery that's at the end of its life. A replacement battery should sort it.

New battery was the first thing I changed, as that's what I thought the issue could have been. But the problem still exists. frown

I'd be checking and cleaning up all the connections to the starter, and if you have a set of jump leads you could run them to the relevant connections on it to bypass the supply wiring.

Does it crank as fast as it should?

If it's cranking slowly, then do the battery volts get dragged down a long way?

It can be useful to measure the cranking current with a DC clamp ammeter. If there is plenty of current flowing but the motor isn't cranking well, that's often a half burned out starter motor.
If the volts are dragged down and the current isn't huge then it could be the battery.
A battery needs to be fully charged. That means overnight at >14V, not just 10 minutes at 14V.

Look for voltage drop in the wiring/contacts/starter relay...
Check the earthing of the starter.

If the engine is spinning over OK but not firing, then it's back to sparks, fuel system, compression.....
New plugs?
Fresh fuel? ( the one time in 20 this makes a difference it's very embarrassing!)
Clean injectors (or is it carb?)?

On my Blackbird it was a buggered starter solenoid.
