I've bought a brand new Superduke R. Collect in a couple of weeks.

The thing is, its almost suspiciously cheap - there are a couple of bikes with the exact same Power Parts spec on bike trader for £15.8k or so - they have £2k worth of options, eg

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/bike-details/20220914...

Mine isn't from that dealer, and I paid £13.8k OTR - same bike, identical spec. Described as a display model heavily discounted, never ridden.

Am I missing something or should I just smile? £13.8k for a Superduke R with £2k worth of power parts that I would have probably bought?

I do need to add the Tech Pack but even so?

Its the right time of year to be buying if someone is motivated to shift. I got a pre-reg EVO model with a few hundred miles on it for £3k+ less than list. Its funny because I was watching the market for quite a while and dealers who were firm on price with me seemed to be selling bikes at list but others were happy to drop £000s for a no fuss (PX etc) sale.

Enjoy.

If it's a pre-reg and sitting in the showroom it doesn't seem unreasonable.

KTM discount from time to time. Did they do a dozen Gen. 2 SDRs for £9999 in 2019? A PHer got one from the KTM dealer in Exeter I think.

When anything is discounted, not just cars and motorcycles, it makes me wonder what the real price is.

If I wanted a new KTM I'd wait until there's a sale on. The Duke 790s they were selling for £6999 around Easter 2020 seem not to have dropped much in price looking at the prices dealers are asking for them now used. It's possible the dozen buyers of the 2019 £9999 Gen. 2 SDRs didn't lose much in depreciation and may've made money on them.

I bought my new 1290 GT from AMS, very cheap, I think it was the last 2018 GT model they had and this was in March 2019 and a new model was out. Mine was supposed to have been a demo bike but hadn't left the showroom after being registered, so it had some extras like the exhaust, sat nav mount etc and was still heavily discounted. I think I got 20% or so discount on the panniers and a few other bits too.

AMS were very good to deal with - I guess they have a reasonable throughput of bikes and want to focus on the new models ? I'd certainly buy from them again.

But having said all that, this is something BMW and Ducati dealers don't do - KTM dealers heavily discount bikes at certain times and it hurts the value of used bikes. Not an issue if you bought it cheaply enough but for anybody buying new at close to full price, it must hurt.

I think it must be something along those lines - sounds like they buy one from KTM, tart it up with Power parts and put it on display for a while, then discount it to get rid.

I'm ecstatic with that price even if its pre-reg (didnt ask tbh), only the Tuono comes close deal-wise.

When did you buy MOBB?

Winter is the time of discounts and I'd expect to start seeing some good offers on around this sort of time, especially as the new reg will be coming in a matter of weeks.

Dealers are incentivised with rebates and whatnot to get their numbers up, hence the ability to offer (sometimes significant) discounts.

A couple of days ago - should collect in a week or 2.

I did have one reserved at another dealer but then this popped up on bike trader.

Compared to the other best deals available currently, I in effect got the following for £600 fitted;

- Akra slip on
- Ergo seat
- Passenger seat hump
- Fly screen
- Anodised levers
- Brake protector lever

As others have said, we're fast coming into the right time of year to buy a KTM. There are always pre-reg or low-mile ex-demo bikes hanging around for £3-4k off list at this time of year.

Well done with the purchase - I'd get the tech pack though! Definitely for the quickshifter, but also so you can turn wheelie control off, it really makes the bike come alive (even if you're not wheelie-ing everywhere).

Agreed and also put it in race shift - its much nicer to press down for another gear when accelerating on a bike like this.

Seems like a very reasonable price.

KTM notorious for heavy discounts at certain times of year, doesn’t help that they regularly change models and colours. Can get a great deal on pre-reg from dealers desperate to shift stock.

Factor in post-Christmas credit card bills, cost of energy, general financial pessimism and I suspect the current buyers for relatively expensive powerful motorbikes are few and far between. Combine that with a wash out of a winter and I reckon dealers will be quite grateful to be moving anything at the moment.

People still seem to pay list though. KTM aren't the only discounters - you can currently get a 'touring' Tuono for £13k when list is £14,750.

Indeed. What is the list price of the KTM?

Tuono V4 Factory is "supposedly" £18k + £1000 for the Akra and Race map. I don't know whether anyone actually does fork over the £19k for one. Right now they can be had for £14,999 + £1000.

Give it a couple of weeks and the Akra might come down to £500. I paid £15,495 + £500 for mine (albeit a year ago). Can't recall what the OTR cost was, £200 if memory serves.

The R is £17k plus £905 R tech pack and the Evo is £18.5k plus £1,100 Evo Tech pack.

You could therefore pay nearly £20k for the Evo list just with the Tech pack. The most I've ever paid for a bike and probably ever want to seems like a bargain.

As I said before people do seem to pay list. Helps tightwads like myself I suppose.

List price of the one I bought is around £18.3k with the added extras. I paid £13.8k.

I was originally looking at used SDR's and V4 Tuonos but these deals can make a lot more financial sense.

Weird how the 2 generally considered "best" big nakeds have these huge price drops over winter. Cheapest new Streetfighter V4 on bike trader is £19.4k. £5.6k more than what I have just bought.

You linked AMS but said you didn't buy from them, where did you buy it from? Are you concerned about a scam?

I think all the dealers are doing a similar discount, free tech pack with some. KTM have form for this! My superduke GT was 5k off in 2017, down to 11.5k, and any extras were 40% off so even with paniers, heated seats some paint guards etc it was like 12200 quid ready to go brand new and pre regd but only the day before I picked it up!
Bargain!

I got 12.5% off a new BMW buying it at the end of October & there wasn't any new significant update coming on that model.
They also threw in first 2 services on top of that.
