A series not that popular oddly in the UK, despite motocross being fairly popular here.

First round last night, a fabulous race loads of incident. Tomac looked superb as usual, Webb rode through the field well, Sexton as usual wobbling under pressure and Roczen flattering to deceive, the crowd cheering when Barcia went down was hilarious! and Musquin, Plessinger Ciancurilo looking very average, you have to fee for some of these guys it is the last year.

I wonder if Triumph's entry next year will change that.

I guess they will take some time to learn, it is a very brave thing to try and beat the Japanese and KTM in this field, but if they get the right riders why not, others have managed it.

I do not know much about that, are they doing Supercross and/or MXGP? Basically Europe and the States

All I'd seen was that Triumph were doing the AMA series, but this says they are entering the FIM MX World Champs as well.

https://www.triumphmotorcycles.co.uk/for-the-ride/...

That page actually says AMA "SuperMotocross", but I assume they mean Supercross?

From what i can gather, the AMA Supercross series lost it's World Championship status, so SuperMotoCross is that combined with the AMA Motocross series

I do not really know how it ever got world championship status, they only race in America!! it is preposterous, but that is American sport, I am guessing they combine in and out door for one series, which is damn tough on the riders

But getting Carmichael on board is big in the USA, bet he costs a fortune!

What a start the season , that 450 main had everything! Strange crash for Stewart.

Agree with the comments re previous ‘world’ status, the series is better suited to AMA.

Who remembers the golden era of SX, 250cc 2 strokes with McGrath, Pastrana, Carmichael, Windham, Reed, Bubba & DV? Special times.

I used to watch it a bit back in the days of Jean-Michel Bayle, Jeff Stanton, and proper 2 stroke bikes.

I also went to a Super Cross event at the NEC, around '91, '92 ish, when they were obviously trying to push it in the UK, but none of the big American names turned up. It seemed to fade away (at least for me) after that.

And before that, Johnson, Lechien, Guy Cooper and Jeff Ward

They got a few of the big names over here this winter, but to Cardiff. I know it's a great idea to have it here, buts for a new thing it has to be London surely.

I understand the whys and hows of an event not being in London, but for a sport that is perhaps massively underrepresented in the UK it has surely got to start somewhere close to the population centre.

I would love to have gone, it was relatively cheap, and my hero Tomac was there, I have been a fan for years but Cardiff... Sorry not a great choice of venue.

For em the Stewart era was fabulous, the stuff that kid could do on a bike, then watching Villopoto dominate aswell with Dungey and a few others in there too. Most exciting moment for me was Ryan doing MXGP as he decided to try it but the letdown of the injury and the fact he was really not interested in it was sad.

Now that was supercross

And when they used to attend Bercy in Paris.

Yep! That was my era.

Paris Bercy was also mentioned - I remember sitting and watching it on Eurosport with my grandad, through one of them new fangled satellite dishes, all those years ago.

Such a shame

Attendance and interest in MX and SX is nothing these days unlike the 80's and 90's.

Numbers at the races were huge, look at any YouTube video of a MX GP or des nations back then , massive following.

Maybe with the demise of two strokes and the four stroke revolution interest waned, mine did. Attended many British GP's and went abroad to watch too. Great times.

Watching it weekly here and going to Tamp this week to watch in person. I saw a youtube video recently that suggested the triumphs were rebadged something-or-others from the KTM suite of brands.
It deserves more interest in the UK but they dont help themselves with coverage. They only just got their act together for domestic viewing in the US.

Sorry if it’s obvious - but where is the best place to watch this?

Either buy videopass from the series themselves (via their website) or I watch it live on a streaming service that is part of my cable package, called Peacock.

As a follow up to this , has anyone been to the recent indoor Arenacross events in the UK, next one at Wembley - worth going ?

Not in the UK but I do attend the ArenaCross here in Denver. Very good to watch in person and some of the current supercross field here will also run the arenacross. Its a good night out, usually smaller and more intimate than the SX.

Also check out the 60's and 70's when the crowds were in their thousands, you even had probably nearly a thousand people watching (in person) at the local centre events, the golden era for the public interest.
