Hello all,

Long-time lurker (well over 10 years), joined up to ask for some advice.

I have been a bit of a silly boy and managed to get myself done for speeding. Offence codeSP30. However, speed too high for points, and ended in front of the magistrate who slapped me with a 42-day ban.

This is now playing havoc with my insurance quotes (I know, I know - play stupid games, win stupid prizes).

Does anyone know of any insurers that specialise in this sort of thing and can offer half-way sensible prices? Any pointers appreciated.

ATVF

Speeding happens.

I think you'll need to shop everywhere including comparison sites, as well as calling to speak to them as maybe the person you speak to could refer your quote to one of their underwriters in case they can do you a quote. Personally can't think of any one particular company as I've not been in your shoes for some years.

Good luck getting something sorted out.

Cheers. I might just have to eat the cost.

Also worth noting (for the benefit of others), it's actually not the speeding ban that's loading my insurance. I managed to write off a brand new bike earlier in the year (first accident in bloody ages). This is what I've found playing around with the quoting engines:

Undeclared write off & ban: ~£450 (this is about normal for me, the bike and the area I live in).

Declared ban: ~£650

Declared write off: ~£1200 eek

Both declared: ~£2,000 eek

So, despite having 6 years NCD, the write off is really screwing me over.

I have been using triumph insurers which under the covers are Just brokers. One of the cheapest quotes they got me was so cheap for pillion permitted I was looking in to who they used under the covers.

The underwriters they proposed were terrible on trust pilot. So it was insurance on paper only. But was a fraction of the cost of more reputable companies.

I went back and opted for someone more ethical - I forget the names involved. Oh and dropped the pillion cover as it doubled the price IIRC.

But you could try them if you accept it’s a box ticking exercise and you may need to go to small claims courts to resolve any loss.

Is that a 'history' thing? I've never noticed any difference with including pillion with no declarations to make.

No ‘history’ on my part.

I assumed it was a lack of experience on bikes thing.

I have 9+ Year Car NCB
2 years Biking NCB
Passed 2020
Pillion was taking three bikes from £420-800 ish.

Have you tried setting a very large voluntary excess to see how much that helps ?

It might be worth seeing if a cheap & low insurance group bike for a year might help
