Have you ever tried selling bike panniers?
Discussion
Rack, aluminium panniers. Facebook marketplace and the comments are 'will it fit my (different) model? Read the ad? I don't know.
Will you take 20p?
I think my friend can collect on my behalf (friend lives 50miles away) 'oh you're wrong side of the city'. No way. Seriously, not withstanding the 50miles distance?
I'll be passing on Tuesday around 2pm are you in? Ah no. Sorry (after numerous tedious questions).
Are all Triumph bike owners like this or just the ones on Facebook?!

If they're Expedition panniers (or similar) for a Tiger, stick them on www.tiger800.co.uk or www.tiger-explorer.com as appropriate. Generally no messing around on there in my experience (the 800 forum); I've bought and sold loads of stuff without any issues.

Ah good call. Sounds like typical morons trying to waste time and get stuff on the cheap…
Haven’t you had any offers of changing them for a Subaru or X box yet??
I went through a period of no matter what I put up for sale, I was always offered those 2 things for some reason…
For sale: nice Honda RC51
Matey boy: I’ll give you £10, an X box and I have a 160k Impreza that just needs a clutch and 4 tyres to swop.
Eh no thanks….

I sold my old Tiger 800 OEM panniers via the tiger800.co.uk forum. No hassle at all - someone expressed an interest using proper sentences, showed up when he said he would, looked them over and handed me the cash, then put them in his car boot and drove away happy with a cheery goodbye. Facebook Marketplace buyers (of anything) can be a different breed.
What panniers are they?

Just some generic Chinese ones but then I've priced them accordingly. What I've found with Facebook is you price something to sell, it attracts those who want it for peanuts. Price it high to negotiate and it doesn't trigger interest. What panniers are they?

Funnily enough I was watching a car dealer on YouChoob last night recounting stories of nightmare customers - and his issues encountered with “cheap people” wanting a bargain being the worst customers; he found that he would refund them, sell the car at a higher price and have a decent customer. Back to panniers - I’ve sold quite a few over the years and I would say that they are probably the easiest things to sell ever; always get your money back.
Don't put them on ebay as an auction - they always go for far less than they are worth that way (which is where I buy my panniers). Classified ad is much better - FB marketplace is full of the aforementioned swap for an xbox, or another one that wastes time "will you post to xxx?" - I'll post them anywhere mate as long as you pay for courier pickup. As long as you pay me I don't care if you're in Moscow, Ayrshire or Moscow, Russia!

Ah yes. I set the expectations 'look its priced to sell if happy with my price I'll post'.A few messages latter
'I'll pay you by PayPal and if you can post you're cost mate'.
No.
I sold a motorbike this week. The buyer wanted £150 off as 'I have had to drive two hours each way'. Even after I had told him at the start I'd already reduced it below what it's market value is and there's lots of interest now'. Rant over.

Haven’t sold but have bought a set through FB Market.
Found a decent looking pair, messaged the guy asking if still available, asked a question about condition. Told him I’d drive up to Shorpe tomorrow to collect.
Arrived handed him asking price (Was a reasonable price so wasn’t bothered about haggling), had a coffee and a chat with him for an hour about bikes, jumped in car and drove home. Easy.

On a vaguely related note - sold some slate tiles on FB recently, lady turned up with her husband to collect. Really nice people. Turns out he was the chairman of the UK Katana owners club and had no less than seven of the things. Ended up chatting to them for about an hour outside in the dark.KTMsm said:
If it makes you feel better I put some slabs on "collection only" for free
How many people do you think I had asking if I would deliver for free too
FFS !
I'm actually surprised I didn't have anyone ask if I would lay them for free
Those idiots seem to think the fact that “but i dont drive” is going to make a difference! How many people do you think I had asking if I would deliver for free too

With my vast stack of slate tiles I didn’t get that, but I did have my first “buyers” simply not turn up - held them for him all weekend, spoke to him on the phone etc and he said he’d be there Sunday evening at the latest. How many people do you think I had asking if I would deliver for free too

Sunday 7pm he tests me to ask if it was ok to pick them up during the week. Just ignored him and blocked him.
Sorry - thread hijack.

I had someone continously cancel. In the end I gave up. His excuses were epic.
