I'm thinking of selling my Honda CB1100EX which has served me well for the past couple of years (not even!).

To replace and this is my only bike, I am looking for a bike that will be able to do London commute and the occasional 2-hours max highway ride, but not more than that. Budget 8-9k tops.

The main problem I have is with the CB is lack of wind protection as its a true naked. Not a problem for commuting into London but not great on highway. Secondary issues is weight and ... well ... lack of excitement. The Swiss watch accuracy of the four-pot low rev torque engine can be as exciting as driving a car. A car that can filter in traffic but a car nonetheless.

Hence my attention is turned to Italian metal for replacement. Two bikes I think on paper should be in my list are the Multistrada 950 and the Aprilia RS660. Multi would be slightly used to fit budget while RS660 can be new.

I appreciate that these two bikes don't fall in the same category other than being Italian and have a screen!

So I wonder for option to suit the needs described of the two would people go for?
Of course if you find my logic flawed and have other suggestion please do let me know what you would go for.

From the thread title I thought Vespa,Lambretta or Italjet.
How disappointing to read you’re after something boring and run of the mill.

That was my first thought. Be years before you can get a used one under £9k though.

V85tt is a decent enough bike, but still right at the upper end of the OP's price range.

If it has to be italian, for the available money, I'd be looking at a used Multistrada.

Thanks, that was not in my radar. Is it a MG V100?

Can't gel with vespas/scooters I'm afraid. Besides has to be good for some highway ride.

I understand now why it wasn't in my radar, its just landed. I looked into it and is both on heavy and expensive side. Nice bike though.

Excitement with triple torque? It's a practical Street Triple?

A late Aprilia Caponord that has the 1 litre V-Twin? I saw a low mileage used one privately advertised for £6K but I didn't have the cojones for such an expensive bike with electronic doodah rear suspension without the reassurance of a dealer warranty.

Is the Supersport 950S in budget used? Posted link due to RS660 comparison test.

Have I seen a yellow CB1100EX? I like the Acid Gold yellow RS660 and Tuono.

Yup, very relevant the supersport and actually was watching this very video last night. Thought that because the RS660 can be had new and also is lighter would ultimately win the contest for me.

My CB1100EX is candy red but yellow is very nice too.

If you’re looking at the Multi and the RS660 why not combine the 2 and have a look at the Tuareg 660?

They keep catching my eye at the minute as well.

Good call, but the Tuareg is really for off road considering size of the wheels, tyres etc.

You don't have to go Italian for excitement - I'd suggest test riding a KTM 1290 GT

Kawasaki Z1000SX, almost certainly. If you wanted a bit more wind protection then maybe the Versys 1000.

That said, in the current day there is so much good stuff from pretty much all the manufacturers. With a £9k budget you're really spoiled for choice on the modern used market.

From memory in May when I looked at the £8K Tuono 660 deal the two year extended warranty, giving four years in total, was £351.

I'd have more confidence in KTM if their dealers offered an extended warranty once the two years is up.
