Mobile phone holder
Discussion
As I get back into biking (after 10 years without riding) I'm starting to venture a little further and as such would benefit from sat nav, I only ride in dry weather so looking to use my mobile phone and Google maps as a sat nav
There seems to be alot of different mobile phone mounts available, wondering if anyone is able to recommend a good one please ?

Quadlock all the way, just make sure you get the anti vibration damper. The wireless charging head maybe worth having too if you are going to use it for sat nav on longer journeys
This, recently bought Quadlock kit for the bike and the car, not cheap BUT it is really good. The wireless charging head (waterproof for he bike) works really well and as said above is great if you are using it for sat nav.Hearing much positivity online about the Quadlock, I bought a set up for my H2, ive also used Ultimateaddons for the last few years, currently have a UA set up on my S1000R.
Having used and compared the two, my verdict is the Ultimateaddons cases and mounting hardware are far more robust and the cases will protect your a lot more from the weather and a knock..
The Ultimateaddons case comes with a retaining strap, so if the worse was to happen, your phone would end up flying down the road...Which is exactly what happened to my buddy with his Quadlock...
Quadlock has been very well marketed where as the folk at UA havent really pushed the product so strongly on social media but having had direct expierence of the two, IMHO Ultimateaddons is a better quality product.
Quadlock is very good, but be careful if you have a phone that they don't make a case for.
I have a low end Samsung Galaxy so had to buy an adaptor that would "stick" onto the back of my phone case.
I thought it was well stuck, but looked down one morning on my way to work to find my phone had gone, and just the "sticky" adaptor left on the mount.
Luckily the phone hadn't hit the road, it had just fallen down into the cabling around the headstock.
I've since drilled and pop riveted the case to the adaptor and had no problems since.

I use a RAM mount wireless charge mount, not cheap, but convenient if you want a waterproof solution that can wireless charge your phone. It just plugs into an existing USB port on my bike although you can get a variety of versions depending on power connection required.
I managed for quite a few years just using my phone on battery for ad hoc sat nav use, but if you intend to go touring and use the sat nav all day you will need a charging solution.
in the sale here £115 https://www.xlmoto.co.uk/product/ram-mounts-quick-...

Another vote for quadlock here with the damper, make sure you get it on sale though, it's too expensive for what it is.
I used RAM mounts for years, but I found the arms kept pressing buttons on the phone, which made it a bit useless. As soon as I got a new phone I couldn't use it any more.

I used Ultimate Addons to begin with but the mount was very finicky to use - albeit strong - and took a good 20 or 30 seconds fiddling to get it to hold. Then switched to Quadlock which is MUCH quicker to attach and detatch but doesn't have the waterproof ability.
Whatever you do get the ram mount as they're so adaptable.
What REALLY pissed me off with Quadlock is their vibration damper is seperate and is as good as saying the standalone product isn't fit for purpose.

Quadlock gets my vote, vibration damper is a must also.
Been using for a year without issue.
On another note Google maps isn't great on a bike, if you try to plan a route with waypoints you have to stop when you reach a waypoint and then click the screen to proceed to the next one, if you don't do this GM will just reroute back to the previous waypoint. It's a faff having to stop, take a glove off, press the screen, then start again. Plus GM will just send you on the fastest route, i.e. not very exciting on a bike.
Other mapping/route options are available, I use Calimoto for example there's a free version (which effectively limits you to a certain radius) and a paid version which unlocks everything including speed cameras etc. You can create routes on a computer which sync automatically to your phone, you can also alter what style of journey you want from waypoint to waypoint, fast to super twisty. Only negative I've found so far is there's no traffic info, maybe on their roadmap, I hope so anyway.

If you have an accident on a remote road you'll probably find your phone will be thrown off the mount, even a quadlock won't survive a nasty tarmac or wall handlebars interface. Then with a broken leg you'll be scrabbling around to find it.
I have a second phone mounted to the bars and keep my main phone in a tank bag where it's got some chance of surviving an off so I can call an ambulance.

I was thinking of a phone holder, so posts are useful for me.
I was also looking a Beeline device.
Anyone got experience of these?
Not personal, but someone posted on another forum that they're OK but sometimes slow in updating, so you can miss a junction etc. Again I have no experience so read into that what you will.I was also looking a Beeline device.

Mine is mounted on a Quadlock specific EvoTech mount bolted to the tank and puts my phone just below the clocks on my SDR, if that gets smashed there the bike won't be going anywhere.I have a second phone mounted to the bars and keep my main phone in a tank bag where it's got some chance of surviving an off so I can call an ambulance.
Quadlock + Vibration damper + Wireless charger here too.
When I last had an accident - frontal collision - I just had the standard quadlock and the phone was actually still attached after. Sadly it was slightly banana shaped and the screen no longer worked. My watch however was still connected to the phone via bluetooth and I managed to call work to let them know I was coming in - but by ambulance as a patient instead.
It then died before I could call the OH and I had to borrow a phone from the ambulance crew. I've never lived down calling work first

What I will do is use my Peak Design Iphone case + mount, which I'm really happy with, and would recommend as very aesthetically pleasing Quadlock alternative.
