Hi all

Not really a nice topic but wondering what you would all do in a situation I've found myself in

Been looking on FB for some all in one waterproofs and came across a pair local for a tenner which would roll up in my work bag,. Perfect I thought so contacted the person and agreed on price and to buy.

Have since found out the sellers partner passed away in a motorcycle about 15 years ago and I'm not comfortable if they were his ! I'm a bit of a believer in karma but I also don't like to break my word☹️ was thinking maybe I'll take them and immediately pass them on

Hmm. Interesting dilemma.
I bought a compressor plus lots of bits from a recently bereaved widow.
I like to think the deceased was pleased to see his stuff going to a good home (rather than in a skip).
But trousers are a bit more "intimate" (can't think of a better word) than a compressor.

Unless the fella died while wearing them, I can't see the issue. Wouldn't bother me at all. I'm sure she won't be bothered if you just message and say you've changed your mind, though. FB is like that.

On the basis that you do indeed believe in karma, and you choose to 'go around' in a dead man's waterproofs, what do you think might 'come around' to you and why?

I’d wear them, I’m the least superstitious person ever. I mean really, you really think a greater power could be at play here??

In your position though, I’d buy them and take them to a charity shop, good karma and all that laugh

Do yourself a favour and look at this as an opportunity to break with silly superstitious behaviour...

OP, do yourself a favour and read this, it's only 5 pages long and it will help you realise there is no bad luck, and that you can create your own 'good luck'.

http://www.richardwiseman.com/resources/The_Luck_F...

"A ten-year scientific study into the nature of luck has revealed that, to a large ex- tent, people make their own good and bad fortune. The results also show that it is possible to enhance the amount of luck that people encounter in their lives."

You can - and you should - change the mindset that you have, that you get bad luck because you did or didn't do something.

You can free yourself of this.

"The results were dramatic. Eighty percent of people were now happier, more satisfied with their lives, and, perhaps most important of all, luckier.

Unlucky people had become lucky, and lucky peo- ple had become even luckier. At the start of the ar- ticle I described the unlucky life of Patricia. She was one of the first people to take part in Luck School.

After a few weeks carrying out some simple exercises, her bad luck had completely vanished. At the end of the course, Patricia cheerfully ex- plained that she felt like a completely different person. She was no longer accident-prone and was much happier with her life. For once, everything was working out her way."

WTF

I thought people who believe there's a magic man in the sky were silly I had no idea anyone did such things

If you don't cross my palm with £666 I'm going to lay a curse on you

laugh

My only issue would be buying 15 year old waterproofs - they won't last long

I'm not getting how karma is involved in this situation, am I missing something?

Did you buy a brand new house or move into an old one? If the latter chances are someone will have died in it hehe

I've got a two piece waterproof set I'd be willing to swap for one of your lucky rabbit's feet. I am relatively fit and healthy so it should be a while before they become dead man's waterproofs and you have to bin them.

Wouldn’t bother me in the slightest.

In fact I’d be tempted to ask if she had anything else I might be interested in. Although if he died 15 years ago it all might be obsolete.

You never know there might be old bikes tucked away in a shed or anything.

Wouldn't worry me if it was a gift or a fair price paid, i wouldn't buy it at a rip of price, not because of karma but just because it's not nice.
If your both happy with the deal, no problem.

How considerate you are. The partner is the one who actually suffered the loss. The partner is the one who, after all these years, has decided to deal with the emotional wrench of selling the kit and yet you are the one thinking about telling that poor person that you won't buy the waterproofs because of the death of their loved one!

To be fair to him he doesn't think he's taking advantage of her, he just thinks the cursed overalls might bring him bad luck and ultimately lead to his demise.

This - There is also an excellent book "The Luck Factor: The Scientific Study of the Lucky Mind" which is based on fact and reality, rather than mumbo jumbo mysticism. Very interesting how behaviour can affect how "lucky" you are.

Your best bet to not be unlucky on a motorcycle is how you ride, your training etc etc, not wearing your lucky pants.

OP - you do realise that when you buy food, it was activity killed and you put that in your body without worrying of the Karma?
