Hi all,

I'm considering a T7 as like the idea of being able to do mild off road / green lanes with also the ability to tour. Just wondered if anyone on here has any feedback as to the ride on long hauls. The one thing that I notice is an abundance of used ones all within a year or two old and up to 7k miles. Just wondering if there is a reason why so many seem to be sold after such a short space of time. Is there any reason for this or do you think they are upgrading for something like a KTM 890. I like the idea of the 700 as its lighter than the others and that makes the difference off road.

I think folk have bought them because of their looks and ability and then realised that they probably never go off road and want something more road oriented.

There's always plenty of used but nearly new stock of most bikes as we are fickle creatures and will happily chop and change for the latest thing, I've sold plenty of bikes with sub 7k on them after a year or two as I want something else.

Great bikes

I bought one. Spent lots on it and it’s been ridden only a handful of times. Last time I rode it was June - so I’m also thinking about selling and using money to go towards another hobby I’ve not yet taken up

For me. After a few years of not having a bike, the looks and amazing reviews made me buy one and I thought I’d have time to ride it… but with 2 young kids and busy work schedule I don’t.

I would recommend one though, they ride great on the road too.

If you are after one with a few good bits on it, crash bars, exhaust, kriega luggage and some spare knobblies for green landing, my mate has one for sale one Kent. We go through cycles, we did sports naked, then adventures, and we are now onto retro’s!

Are you the top or the bottom?

Have a look at the Nomad Sweden YouTube channel. One of the guys there (Robert) has a Tenere and they tour quite a bit, as well as lots of forest/off road. Robert seems happy enough with it.

As a slightly random aside, Pol Tarres made a couple of great movies on YouTube with his T7

(There is also the seeker 2).

Just amazing.

Got mine in June, and have done 3k miles, and I love it.

Great for my commute on B roads and country lanes, and uses half the fuel the car does.

Touring wise personally I prefer riding it on A and B roads. Although it's probably capable of 120mph at a push, I'm not that keen on riding it on the motorway for long periods. The engine is more than capable, but the wind starts to become a bit of a nuisance over 70mph.

I liked these until Honda announced the Transalp 750.

Now, subject to pricing, they seem a bit redundant compared to the incoming Honda.

Not sure about making the T7 redundant, as they are slightly different bikes.

If I was doing 99% road miles, I'd probably look at the Transalp, if I was doing a fair % of off road / greenlaning, I think the T7 would be the one to have.

But as you say price will be a major factor.

I've already got the T7, so irrelevant for me at the moment, but maybe a couple of years down the line the Transalp could definitely be on the short list.

I've no need for such a thing but those tanks, that colour, that steering damper and screen appeal to my inner child lots.

MCN review mentioned the KTM 890 adventure. I'd forgotten about those dangly fuel tank bash ball things.

I looked at the T700 and the 1090. For me the T700 is for people who will use it primarily for dirt roads etc. NOT a tourer, NOT for long miles on asphalt.

For me, it's probably one of the best looking bikes out there but you need two bikes if you buy one. Plenty of people are now finding this out.

You can fit a different front sprocket but also don't forget it's a high bike. If you are <5ft10 will you be comfortable?

The essential problem with any of these type of bikes is that an Enduro bike is the tool for off road and a 1200cc+ is the tool for road

So you have to pick carefully what you are actually going to do (as opposed to what you think you are going to do)

I read the reviews on the T7 but then rode one at the ABR - off road, a small, light bike it is NOT. Probably ideal for hundreds of miles on mud roads across Africa but hard work on wet Warwickshire clay

I decided to go with an KTM 690 Enduro but I know many have found them too compromised off road and gone back to enduro bikes.

Conversely the mechanic at my local shop rides a T7 off road but he is a better rider than I and he only has one, do it all bike, whereas I tend to run 5 so I can pick a better tool for each job
