Evening all

After my Street triple was nicked a couple of weeks ago, I now have a new bike:

A 1999 cbr900rr

I did think about putting up a "what bike?" thread, but I saved everyone the bother of trying to second guess my poorly defined requirements.

It is probably a silly bike, bought for a silly reason, as I commute about 20-30 miles up the M23 to South London year round.

I don't ride "socially", don't do track days, and don't really use a bike other than for commuting, as generally the car is more sensible (taking family members, or luggage, or wanting to actually walk around somewhere not in bike clothes)

Reasons I bought it?

A new bike shop has opened round the corner from me, and they had 2x cbr900s and an old zx7r sitting out front.

This was basically the least ropey of the three. Like I said, not particularly the best reason to buy.

I could have travelled round the M25 or into London to save a few hundred on one, but whilst I paid quite strong money (£3.5k on 38k miles) it does ride really well. The gearbox is really tight, and the engine runs well.

I've never had an out and out sports bike, so part of this choice was to see what it's like.

It's more hard core than my zzr600, but not overly so, and quite managble so far, though it's been wet so I've just bumbled around town.

My Street triple was probably more accomplished, but I missed the fairing, and il4 rush, and maybe a bit of nostalgia back to the zzr.

I was tempted towards an sv650, or old Fazer 600, or newer cbr300 to save a few quid on tyres and petrol, but decided my bike spend is a relatively small part of my spending, and I wanted a bike where I wasn't settling for "that'll do".

Of course, the inevitable spending has started
- renntec rack on its way
- beefy security chain and bike cover (already had disclock, just didn't use it)
- thinking about a tank pad of some sort to save the paint
- an trying to resist replacing any furry fastners

I have spent the afternoon fitting airhorns, and have a scott oiler to fit, but will try to keep the tinkering to a minimum

One thing: if anyone can suggest any good forums for the cbr900 I would be grateful.

I was expecting tonnes of online resources, but haven't seemed to find much so far?

That does sound like very strong money but as long as you're happy with it... Congrats

Fairly spendy but they’re made with a quality that most makers can only dream of these days, so look after it and it’ll be as reliable as a watch.

Reg/rec and stator is one to watch for.

A good one is worth spending a few more quid on, be interested to see how you're getting on with it.
