I know that this will be different for everyone but what is the best thing about motorcycling for you? For example is it:-

1. Speed / performance
2. Reduced commuting time
3. Low fuel bills
4. Handling
5. Sense of freedom and being exposed to the elements
6. Interaction / involvement with the machine that you don’t get with a car.
7. Sound

It would be good to hear your thoughts.

Freedom. Not just the sense of, but also tangible freedom in that I don't get stuck in jams or behind slow moving vehicles for long, It's relatively easy to park and I can to a U turn almost anywhere if I need to.

Mainly, Interaction / involvement with the machine that you don’t get with a car, followed by speed and performance.

Acceleration, shorter journey times, easier parking, getting to the front of the queue at red traffic lights, not being badly affected by public transport problems.

It’s just a bit of an escape really. Not that I have anything to escape from.

I enjoy driving too but there is more scope for thinking when driving. When riding you are purely in the moment concentrating of riding.

The whole thing even when pottering about is a full assault on the senses, it’s always exciting.

Because driving is increasingly a battle ground of egos, driving ever larger and faster SUVs. Aggressive driving. Selfish and self-absorbed. Plus the roads are busier.

I really don't like driving that much at all, especially in more densely populated areas. It's stressful.

But put me on a bike, able to put clear distance between me and others, filtering through traffic, etc, and i'm able to get a sense of freedom.

How people drive in rush hour 5 days a week without going on a full-on Michael Douglas "Falling Down" style rampage is beyond me.

Ditto. Plus gives me a reason to potter in the garage and forget about all the other c**p for a while.

This, it just calms the mind. I get off the bike and just feel mellow and happy.
I enjoy the effortless torque and smooth power delivery more than power and speed these days, I've got to my mid 30s and find myself starting to slow down alot and just plod about but still really enjoy the ride.
Riding a bikes engaging isn't it, there's no music and distractions it's a sense of occasion and it turns my commute from an a-b in the car into an event I enjoy. I look forward to the 30 minutes before and after work on the bike.

For me it's the 30 minute door to door commute. Contrasting the 3 hour door to door car journey this week due to the dartford tunnel closure cs, which even without those would be 60 minutes.

Freedom. For me, concentrating on riding and generally having a good time means I can't think about anything else. I find that incredibly relaxing.

This

At work I'm trying to keep my train of thought going without being distracted by the activity around me. Once I'm riding home I'm trying to be totally aware of what's going on around me and prevent any train of thought getting started that might result in me pondering the secrets of the universe rather than spotting the white van on constant bearing decreasing range.

The contrast is very therapeutic.

Most of the above but also the feeling that you can always get better. Compared to driving the learning curve is completely different.
