it'll be a proper challenge on a 125
some information here, the 'rules' are under the certified rides section
good luck if you do it

You need to average 56mph / 90km/h for 18hours. The other hours you need to rest, eat, drink, use the toilet and refuel. Averaging that speed on a 125 would be very difficult.
I wouldn’t attempt it at all in the UK. It’s London to almost Aberdeen and back again. It would need to be in continental Europe.

You could try the ldu -longest day up-
It's lands end to John o groat's it's for cancer research and during the pandemic we raised about £35k which was the biggest amount donated that year.
You start at sunrise on the longest day and their are pitstops every few hundred miles.
The main rule is that the bike must have cost less than£600 it used to be £300 but they are a bit thin on the ground- safety related stuff mot, tyres etc can be over budget and ate not counted towards the £600

Yes I've done two RBLRs and several rallies. I love it
1000 miles in 24 hours is easier than you think on a bike that's been setup and appropriate. I think the record was set on someone doing the RBLR1000 on a 110cc twist and go scooter a couple of years ago. A couple of guys attempted to do it on L plates last year but pulled out due to somebody on a bigger cc bike having issues!
Good luck. Have a read of their forum for tips.
I'm planning a 4 corners ride next spring.

Maybe I'm just being a miserable old git, but I just don't see the point in doing stuff like this.
I've watched TeaPot1 doing a couple of these, and I just don't get it.
For me motorcycling is about fun, and enjoyment.
Trying to do those sort of mileages in those sorts of times in any kind of weather, through the night, sleeping in motorway services, or on grass verges, would not only take all of the fun out of it, but also seems bloody dangerous, riding while that tired / cold / wet etc. etc.
Not for me !!

I’ve got to agree with you on this. I've watched TeaPot1 doing a couple of these, and I just don't get it.

Same for me! I once rode from Dover across to Kidwelly in Wales and back in one day, the journey there was fine and I woudl say even quite enjoyable - but the journey back was hard going as things were getting a bit sore, compounded by the fact it absolutely chucked it down at Reading and stayed torrential rain the rest of the journey home.I've watched TeaPot1 doing a couple of these, and I just don't get it.

To each their own though! I'd consider making an attempt at it somethere in North America where the roads stretch out more and there is less traffic, but in the UK and most of Europe I think I'll pass for the same grumpy git reasons as BlackG7R!

I can appreciate the challenge, but it's definitely not for me! If I'm doing a long range trip give me a comfy barge. If it's got to be a high speed run then make it supercharged 😁I've watched TeaPot1 doing a couple of these, and I just don't get it.

Each to their own but for me it's about the endurance aspect. It's difficult. Ive never had to sleep in the Ironbutt hotel aka on the road next to the bike. 1000 miles is very doable sub 20 hrs with a stops. I've watched TeaPot1 doing a couple of these, and I just don't get it.

Plus I like planning. Plan the ride ride the plan.. It's fairly straight forward to ride 1000 miles around the UK motorway network but go off the beaten track it becomes more challenging.
Ive got small kids so as much as I'd like to blat off to the alps for 2 weeks on my own I can't really justify it to me or the Mrs so I get a weeks worth of milage in a weekend.

I used to think somewhat the same as you but I've grown to be fascinated by the challenge. I did the Dragon Rally this year and intend to do it many more times. It was absolutely awful but enormous fun with a huge sense of achievement at the same time. It's just like any other endurance race/sport.I've watched TeaPot1 doing a couple of these, and I just don't get it.

I certainly won't be doing it in the midst of winter however. This will be for next summer. However I intend to build up the amount of miles I do in a day until then

Absolutely, and I do 10 Hr Ironman Enduro racing. I've watched TeaPot1 doing a couple of these, and I just don't get it.

On the road, sounds horrifically boring and downright dangerous also.
The Saddlesore 1000 (1000 miles in 24 hours) or Saddlesore 1600k (1600km in 24 hours) is only the start.
There’s 1500 miles in 36 hours and variations of 1000 miles per day for any number of days. If you want to ride 20,000 miles in 20 days you can do that.
There’s other crazy-dangerous ones, like 1500 miles in 24 hours or 1000 miles on dirt roads in 24 hours.

Personally only the 1000 miles in 24 hours or 1500 miles in 36 hours make sense and only if to cover a lot of motorway distance in a short time at the start of a longer holiday. For example, you could ride Calais to Valencia in Spain in < 24 hours and after that, your real holiday has started.

I agree with this. Riding long distances in a short time to get to or home from a holiday makes a lot of sense, especially when the route is through areas with boring roads, but taking you to good roads.I've done 1000 miles in 15 hours and 1800 miles in 32 hours returnig from a trip but riding long disances in a short time because of "the challenge" is pointless IMHO.
Interesting thread. I was discussing with a friend, I quite like the idea of it, but I can totally appreciate that it might not be everyone's cup of tea!
I thought I might try a 'half iron butt, like kent => plymouth => kent, or something. I think that's doable in a day, and if I hate it, I'll stop, if I enjoy it, I'll carry on and do more.
I suspect until you are there 'in the moment' after like 18 hours of riding, it all looks quite good fun. However, a late night at work, I know how 'really tired' feels, and I'm not sure I'd want to be on a bike when that appears.

Once did a super long drive in our Land cruiser, with additional long range 100 liter tank, so can't imagine how difficult it would be on a bike
From Algeciras, very bottom of Spain, back to UK.
Somewhere around Clermont-Ferrand after 16 hours, I had to pull over.
Hats off to the guys on bikes

A half iron butt (tin butt?) is just a normal day ride when you need to get somewhere!I thought I might try a 'half iron butt, like kent => plymouth => kent, or something. I think that's doable in a day, and if I hate it, I'll stop, if I enjoy it, I'll carry on and do more.
