New bike day – well picked up on Saturday spent day and a half taking bits off and adding nippy and evo tech stuff. It’s the easiest bike I’ve had to work on.
Did 350 running in miles around Wales yesterday (Tuesday), it was nice just to follow my nose and ended up in the village of Tregaron before going over some hills, past a reservoir complex and ending up in Llandovery, before heading north, back to the north west, and taking some more single-track roads rather than just being on A roads all the time.
I noticed I did run wide on a few corners, and i need to remember it’s not an inline triple or an inline four.
Stock tyres are fking dire, cannot wait to get rid.
Still its ok

There's nothing quite like getting a new bike. I hope you have many happy miles together.

Is it slowing you down, or the torque means it's easier progress on the single track roads?

thanks

it appears to be a different way of riding - still runing in so restrcited to 5K RPM but that has been exceeded slightly

tyres are dire though i had the rear lock up when just stopping at some traffic lights this morning

not impressed with the QS is lower gears, appears ok 4th onwards, not used it down the box

aches and pains when riding as the position is differnt to the previous Tiger 800 and current Ninja SX

still early days

If you can afford too, ditch the tyres at the first check up.

That reservoir must have been Llyn Brianne. Brilliant scenic roads round there - Abergwesyn to Tregaron and the road down to Llandovery that runs along the hillsides above the water.

The Black Mountain road is the other side of Llandovery, although it was made a 40 after it was popularized by Top Gear.

When new KTM Duke 125s with the KPH speedo sticker film over their TFT dashes are on Michelin Pilot Sport 5s (I know what they look like even if I got their name a bit wrong) in showrooms I am surprised BMW would sell new bikes with mediocre tyres on.

well two weeks in 1000 miles and first service behind me and its ok

not much to report, you can filter on them, just got to take a bit more time and work the traffic a little more, getting around 275 a tank full, may get a bigger screen or a deflector as the wind is a nusiance

not too sure on the "big frontal area keeps the weather off" i think that's just jurno talk, if anything, the areodynamics appear to send all the rain between the gap in my two peice textile suit - bloody soaked last week - inside and out

Glad to hear you are bonding with it, and sounds like the same level of protection my 2018 Multistrada used to give me .. lol

It rains when on a motorbike and you complain about it being windy or getting wet? Either: get a better suit or take the car?

It wasn't a complaint it was an observation. Read and understand what is written. It is written in very simply language so even knobs like you can understand, though obviously it escaped you on this occasion.

Here Here! Seems to be a lot of people having a 'go' on here just now. If you dont agree just dont reply, thought forums were meant to be easy going and fun, not an excuse for keyboard warriors to have a dig at anything and everyone!

"bloody soaked last week - inside and out" Hmmm... I suppose if you are a wet fish, then that comment isn't a complaint. Apologies for getting it wrong.

Three months ownership, 6500 miles

OEM tyres were replaced with sports touring tyres at 3.5k – a lot better

Quick shifter is a waste of time both up and down

Lights are crap – still waiting for the LEDs

Comfort on long journeys is ok – improved with a cool cover – but that interferes with the heated seat

Wind protection ok – its not touring bike std despite the largish front end

Heated grips and seat are excellent.

Servicing quite cheap – I thought

Easiest bike to work on in terms of adjusting things and adding stuff

Difficult to clean and get in all the nooks and crannies

Still ride it like an inline 4 which leaves me flat and frustrated – red line is at 9K

Fuel capacity is excellent, it’s good to be able to go to places in one tank full and not have to plan intermediate stops

Centre of gravity is good which helps in sticky situations

I dont regret the purchase but i would have preferred the new Tiger but the vibes were just too much, couldn’t afford the fuel bill of a V4S, didn’t have faith in a 1290S that It wouldn’t breakdown when I most needed it/require warranty work - but people will probabaly say that about GS

Quite a few people seem to complain about the Shift Assist, and it's obviously nothing like as seamless as the S1000XR/RR version, but I've found it useful on both GSs that have had it, even if it's not perfect.

I use it almost all the time for changing up when out of town, and use it for downchanges when pressing on. You do need to be positive with your foot, and I've found the downchange definitely needs higher revs to work consistently. Have you had the adjustment on yours checked ?

I bought a Tiger 900 GT Pro in September, now at 2400 miles and yes the vibration is still there at 4000 - 4200 rpm (approx 60 in top) so I don't cruise at those revs - QS is brilliant - but the first I've ever had so not an expert. I did sit on a mate's GS but it felt like a barge... potato potahto

It's fine on mine changing up from 2nd upwards.

The only real problem I get is very occasionally it just won't change down, you apply normal pressure on the lever and nothing happens, so have to quickly reach for the clutch. Most of the time it just blips the throttle and picks the lower gear smoothly. That odd glitch is isn't bad enough to stop me using it though.
