So I have 2 bikes atm and I'm now of the thinking I should just go back to having the one, I have a sports tourer and a 650 bike for rides out...

Basically the sports tourer this year has been as far as Whitby or Hawes only (I live just outside of Middlesbrough), I'm finding I am tending to go out on the 650 for a 4-5 hour blast more and more.

I'm now thinking I don't need the tourer (as I haven't been anywhere on it touring wise for over a year and its not getting the runs out it deserves) and if I went down to 1 bike then a 650 isn't going to be enough as much as I like it, so thinking something like a Kwak Z900RS SE model, love the retro looks and it would have. enough grunt if I needed it and if I was to go far I could always put a Kreiga on the back of it...

Only thing is the poor part ex values I got today on a trade in (when the new bike comes) was surprising to say the least, as much a is do like the Kwak Z900RS SE I'm thinking why lose the money, should I just admit defeat and maybe sell the smaller 650 and keep the sports tourer for a couple more years. My reasoning behind this would be if I only have the one bike I'll use it more like I did the previous year before getting the second bike...

This year has been difficult, all hobbies and interests have been a bit chaotic as everyone catches up on stuff they didn't do in covid.
So I'm hoping that next year will be different in a few ways.

I'm already planning stuff for next year which I really couldn't have planned a year ago.

But having a realistic plan of what toys I will get to use next year is always a bit hit and miss.

I'm selling a few things and re-prioritising, but the sports tourer is staying.
Considering getting a 'project' to go with it. Could be a bike or a kit car.

The answer is clearly 3 bikes.

The key question here is - do you see yourself doing more touring in the next year or two? If the answer to that question really is no, then the sports tourer is a solution looking for a problem. If the answer is yes, and this year's lack of touring was just a one-off then keeping the sports tourer is a good idea.

BTW - What is the sports tourer?

I had a Z900RS while mine was in for a service recently. It was nice enough, but nothing special. It looked good but riding it didn't excite me. It didn't leave me wanting to ride for another hour on it, or looking for the nearest set of twisties, or wanting to pose along the sea front at Cannes. It got me home from the dealers, sat on the drive for most of the day then got me back to the dealers. I was a little bit disappointed. If you're seriously looking at spending your money on one of those, give it a good test ride first.

I think you mentioned what the tourer is in your Tuono 660 justification thread.

Is there a motorcycle that's a half way house between the Z650RS and your touring bike? Sell both motorcycles and get one that's in the middleground?

I almost bought a new discounted previous model Z650 (LCD dash semi circular dash) in 2020 and while they sound OK while going past me it seems the SV-650 and MT-07 have better engines. I like the CF-Moto designs and four year warranty with the 700cc version of the Kwak engine but it's still the same trouble free proven motor that's not up there with the engines in the comparable Suzuki and Yamaha.

I've watched the Lamb Chops, TMF and other's reviews of the Z900RS and it has much appeal to me, I like the double walled exhaust headers, but when they're so much about looks and image I am not sure they're me. Once Freddie Dobbs uploads his green and gold wheeled Z650RS review I'll probably watch it.

Is the middleground a Kawasaki Verysys, V-Strom 650, Triumph Tiger Sport 660 or Yamaha Tracer 700? Trouble is there's none of the retro bling like you'd get with the Z900RS and Z650RS.

Triumph Street Twin 900? Retro looks with a high torque 64bhp motor, a twin being a twin rather than an homage to a 70s inline four that has a twin, that may achieve 70 MPG?

You man mathsed the justification for the Tuono 660 and Z650RS by saying they'd be easier to get out on and more suited to the cafe rides with friends than a big tourer. If you're not going to tour anymore and most of your riding is just getting out on a smaller and nimbler motorcycle for the enjoyment and thrill sell the tourer and take the financial hit?

Does the meltdown of the pound and recession mean you'll use the touring motorcycle for trips abroad in the future?

Thanks gents, yep its a Ducati Multistrada, tbh it is an amazing bike but just not getting the usage at the moment, also I will admit to being properly pi;=ed off when I got the bill for its 5 year service (£900) it totally took the fun out of riding the bike for a while (joys of having a Ducati people say).

I'm just not sure I want to take any more hits on bikes now, I'm really undecided on what to do now, if I only had the Multistrada I know I'd use it more and it's a great bike in the colder months.

I was also a little dismayed at my dealer yesterday saying I'll probably get £6250 part ex on a Z650RS Anniversary model yesterday and I only bought it new in April 2022...

Yep I had justified to myself to chop in both bikes and get the Z900RS SE and then if I wanted to go further I have Klieg gear I could use.

That was before I realised how poor trade in and part ex prices are, I'm now debating on what to do as I hate losing money and recently on bikes thats all ive done lol...

I've only bought not sold and the trade in offer was what almost had me on a sparkly Acid Gold Tuono 660 in June.

Your Z650 is quite the looker.

I know its a beauty tbh...

My head is all over the place now haha...

Do I chop both of these in taking a hit on values...

For one of these and I'm at one bike I think will do it all and be more suited to long term ownership...

They'll hold the Z900RS SE price when it's a 2023 delivery given KamiKwasi nosediving the pound into the sea?

Those Zee 900s have an interesting cooling system:

Getting hot quicker makes for cleaner emissions?

What about the new Guzzi V100 it, bit of retro charm, bit of sport touring or maybe the TT when they bring that out, will probably look even more retro if they follow the V85 styling?

Sat here trying to work out my riding habits over the last 12-14 months. Only been on a 3 day excursion to Scotland which I loved on the Multi.

The rest of my riding is rides out with mates or on my own for rides out somewhere for a coffee then back home again. Whether that’s a 2 hour ride or a 6 hour ride I’d say those rides would make up about 90% of my riding over the last year or so.

Hence me thinking the Multi is wasted on me…

So, put a week or two into your diary for next year when you'll do a Euro tour.

If that approach makes you think "no, definitely not" then the Multi may well be overkill. If you think "that'll be fun, I'm going to make it happen" then you need to keep the Multi.

Looks like if you went down the private sale route you may get nearer £7k for the Z650RS? Bad time of year (even ignoring the economy) to be selling though I guess.

Well this ones easy.

The 'smaller' bike has been enough for you all this year as youve hardly touched the 'larger' bike.

Therefore, get it gone, keep the smaller one for the next year or so, see how you get on with it long term and see what happens with the markets, then upgrade to a larger one when youve had a bit of moneys worth out of it.

I run a Multistrada and a 690 ktm enduro / SM, to be honest if I had to sell one it would be the KTM, the Multi does touring, but it’s also pretty good at fast A/B road blasts, just not so good when there’s grass growing down the middle of the road, as there is in this part of the world.
But if I was in your shoes, and you want a retro Kwaka, buy it, life is too short to have regrets, I’ve done 2-3000 mile tours on a R9T with Kriega tail pack, no worries, so just get it bought!
