Took a relatively sedate drive on the nice roads of North Yorkshire today in my R8...

Cane across quite a few bikers on route who were game as badgers for a race ...something I dont partake in....

When they saw I wasnt going to play, all rode off at insane speed...overtaking on bends...going all out....and all out on these big bikes is warpspeed !

Made me wonder that you bikers either have big balls and big skills...or maybe are just overzealous on their jap superbikes..

Saw some crazy riding today !

I'd imagine the answer you're looking for is they're brainless

A well sighted bend and clear road ahead? Yep, definitely the correct diagnosis…

How do you know they were wanting to race ?, why does it matter you have an R8 ?, anyway, indeed, Cool Story Bro.

I also drive an R8 and ... ride a 790 duke.

The main difference when overtaking is the line of sight. In the R8, you are sitting very low and have very poor visibility. On a bike, you are positioned higher and can get very close to the middle lane with great visibility. Furthermore, the acceleration on the 790 is greater than the R8 below 100mph which allows to overtake faster.

This is perhaps why you think they are going at insane speed and overtake in bends. In reality, they can see cars coming when you don't and they can accelerate very hard which makes you feel that they are ridding at insane speed which they don't. Furthermore most bikes are very loud which make bystanders believe they ride faster than they do. And finally, wind resistance is insane at high speed for riders (especially naked bike like the 790 duke) which makes it not great to ride above 100mph.

Anyway, I am not trying to excuse poor riding. As always, they are always some dheads in all course of life but I also live in North Yorkshire and I don't see many...

By the way, are you driving an Ara blue gen2 R8?

As well as the sensible stuff Paddy said bikes also have a lot of engine braking. Rolling off the throttle can scrub 20mph surprisingly quickly. It all adds up to bikes looking fast on the road but likely not actually being at more than 8/10ths.
