Loose switchgear causes crash?
Discussion
Sorry to hear that hope everything is ok.
The nearest thing to that happening to me was (many years ago) on a bike with drum/cable brakes, the front brake cable snapping as I was pulling up to a red light - just ploughed on through all the oncoming traffic, fortunately no injuries but needed a change of underwear afterwards!

yep, switch gear eventually loosens. Should be spotted at a service & done up. If it's a new bike, under warrenty, you may make a good case for compensation.
TO be fair, the manual you get with most new bikes does state the EVERY ride you check EVERY thing. Tyre pressure, chain tension, FASTENINGS. But a compenent failure that is caused by poor manufacture is their responsibility.

Currently investigating whether manufacturer can be held responsible. It was a fairly new bike (5 months old). Insurers are being a pig about releasing the engineers report though. I might have to get another one done, which will be paid for by the legal expenses insurance anyway! Manufacturer could end up paying out for all uninsured losses, including time off sick (I'm self-employed) and injuries.
