I'm after a new hat for commuting, I've pretty much decided on the Schuberth C5.
It comes with built in speakers ready for a Sena intercom that I won't use although
Bluetooth would be good for the phone but not sure if they work without the Sena.
'Plug and Play" retrofit of communication systems based on the Sena 50S with pre-installed HD speakers, mesh, FM radio, and Bluetooth antenna'
Also 1 review complained the visor would fall down above walking speeds.
Any other recommendations?.

I have a Scorpion Eco-Tech Carbon. Light, comfortable and reasonably quite and the chin bar rotates completely behind your head so riding at 60mph open faced is easy and your head doesn't get ripped off!

I'm on my second Schuberth lid and about to purchase my third.

When it is flipped up, the mechanism rarely drops the visor when walking. Just walk with a slight tilt of the head back and you're fine.

My Mrs has another brand (I forget what) of flip lid and the mechanism on that is so rigid, it takes both hands to flip it down. Whereas the Schuberth has been one handed since day one.

The only gripe really is that the integrated sun visor has a coating which can be awkward to get spotless. I belive it has been sorted on the newer ones, but I've not got mine yet.

I’ve got a Shoei Neotec 2 which I like.

I didn’t bother with coms as I don’t use them but they have an inbuilt system if you need it.

Definitely needs the supplied Pinlock as it mists up as lot more than my previous Arai.

Quite honestly I’d have liked to compare it with the Schuberth but nowhere had any to try on at the time.

Ive been wearing a Shark Evo of some model over the last 10 years. Latest models are great, some of the lightest and highest rated flip up style helmets. The option bluetooth kit works well too and not too expensive compared to other brands. I like the chin bar that goes all the way back making it a jet style helmet, versus the flp up helmets that are designed to be used at a standstill rather than when riding.

I am the same - personally cannot see much purpose in a flip front if it doesn’t go round the back and allow you to ride comfortably with it fully open
Only criticism is that they are a bit loud but fine with ear plugs

I've got a C5 and love it.

The visor stays up at speed if it's open more than a couple of notches, the reviewer probably means that if you have it open on it's first notch then it will close at speed. Similarly the flip front will stay up on it's own, also has a locking mecahnism but that feels like overkill.

You do need to buy the additional bits if you want the the comms to work though.

I've got a C3 Pro. I don't rate it.

It's got average wind reduction at best and unless locked fully it drops.

Plus you have to give it a firm grip pull down to lock it down.

For the price I'd rather have chosen a decent Shoei.

Like the look of the Shark as the flip up does not act like an air brake?

I'm very pleased with my Shoei Neotec 2. A lot quieter than my gt air that it replaces.

Yep, you can ride with it open or closed up to motorway speeds...although I tend not to ride with it open on the motorway on a naked bike just down to noise.

Its 5 star Sharp rated, the chin bar stayed shut 100% of the time during crash testing (used to be a concern with this style). Its light for the style at 1650g ish and quieter than many full face helmets.

Overall a great touring helmet and you soon get used to being able to open it up and get some fresh air when you feel like it.

About 15 yrs ago i had an accident at 20mph ish when a pedestrian walked out in front of me in town.

My head was pushed into the petrol tank. The chin bar of my full face helmet hit the fuel cap with such an impact that it pushed the cap and the area around it (at a very strong point it the structure) about 1/2" in.

If i had been wearing a flip front lid, riding in town like that is exactly when i would've had it fully open. My face and jaw would have taken the impact and come off much worse.

For that reason i wouldn't advocate wearing such a lid.

Each to their own, YMMV, etc, obvs...

Bit late to the party but I really like my HJC Rpha. I always wore Arai’s before and the fit seems very similar. Hi no end of problems with a Shark evo, but appreciate others have been happy with theirs.

In case it's any help, I've got a white Xlite X1005 modular.
It feels quite heavy to me (I think it weighs 1.7 kg). I had a Nolan full face and it seemed much lighter than my new modular.
I got an open face Caberg thing for commuting in the city over summer. Huge difference in wieght, as you'd expect.

No problems with the chin guard not going up or coming down of its own accord.
Sometimes needs a good shove to lock it back in the down position.

Central ridge for raising/lowering the visor.
Pin lock seemed to work very well last winter.

Mins is an XL and it's bloody huge.

It works well for me, but it's heavy - bit annoying after a while.
