New bike day, kind of. Street triple to Daytona
Discussion
I bought a street triple 765 last year, my second big bike after passing my test in 2020. I test rode a few bikes at the time and the main contender was the RS660 as I loved the riding position, and weather protection, but it didn't feel fast enough coming from my Svartpilen 701, because of the torque mainly. At the time they were too new to get one second-hand and I couldn't justify £10k+ on a new bike. I also took out a Daytona 675r but I couldn't cope with the riding position; it felt so aggressive and alien. I only had a 20 min ride but came back with an aching neck and wrists. I did love the engine though but definitely wanted a quickshifter and blipper and traction control, so I test rode the street triple and then bought a second hand 2017 765RS. I knew a few people on the internet had fitted Daytona fairings to a street so I watched ebay and found a guy converting his Daytona 675r in to a full track bike so he had all bodywork, lights, seats mirrors everything to do the conversion apart from brackets. so I ordered a new front fairing bracket, found some second-hand sundry ones on ebay and some new fairing fixings. I had everything needed but because of the riding position which I had hated on the 675 I also ordered some ABM touring height adjustable clip ons, which can adjust from 40-70mm higher than the standard ones. In the mean time I did a few trackdays on the street triple and whilst it was good on the track I hated the lack of fairing and going over 110mph just wasn't enjoyable so I thought I should get round to doing the conversion, of course I never found the time so I got a triumph specialist to do the work for me a few weeks ago. I picked up the bike a few days ago and I'm really happy with how it turned out. I never learned to love the street triple looks but the Daytona in my eyes is an all time classsic. The riding position is so much comfier than a standard Daytona, I'd say its not quite at RS660 levels but its better than the s1000rr I took out for a test ride, I did 90 minutes on my first ride and my neck was fine and although its a bit wristy it was not enough to make me want to stop. Its so much nicer at motorway speeds too and just feels much more special to ride than the street triple. Adding all the costs up I think I've ended up with a comfortable Daytona with Quick shifter/blipper, traction control and a TFT dash for less money than a similar mileage 'real' one would have cost

I got the main job lot of parts for £600 from the guy making his a track bike, I've seen fairings go cheaper than that but he had pretty much everything else like lights and he was local. Brackets and fasteners about £180, main expense being the new upper fairing stay. Clip ons were costly at £230 or something and I had the orginals in the job lot but the adjustability makes the bike, so well worth it.
