Ruroc Lid Conundrum
Discussion
I rather like the idea of a carbon Ruroc Atlas 4 - anybody here got one? Is the quality as good as the blurb? Pros/cons??
Very tempting, but I can't quite make my mind up due to the £475 asking price - if I take the plunge, what do the PH Massive say: Liquid Carbon (black) or Nebula Carbon (blue)????

Have a look at some other reviews and especially actual consumer reviews as it's very easy for a single source to be swayed...
I am mainly going from forums/Facebook groups which I know can be biased however I've never heard a good thing said about these helmets. I'd just buy from a reputable brand however everyone has their own views! I'm currently shopping for a new Arai which there will also be many detractors for!

I think the real conundrum is actually why anyone would ever buy one.
The designs are utterly naff, the paint schemes tacky and they are huge in real life, they make your head look massive and they seem very expensive compared to the (well proven) offerings from Shoei, Arai, Shark etc. Also lot of ‘influencers’ have them. Whether that’s a positive or a negative depends on your point of view.

I've got one from event they were doing only ski helmets and the snow range had been in fantastic.
I wanted to continue using one when I started riding but the independent reviews were fairly poor. With the latest release of the 4.0 I've been tempted to get one as reviews seen much more positive, it appears to be a stepped improvement having spoken to someone who has a 3.0 and a 4.0.

Honestly, any new entrant into the helmet market is going to have a tough time when you've got trusted and established brands to compete with. E.g. Shoei, Arai, AGV, Shark, HJC, X-Lite etc.
As mentioned above, some of the real world reviews (not by charlantans like Chase on Two Wheels et al) leave a fair bit to be desired. I wouldn't touch one. Also £25 for a pinlock that's included with most of the other brands I mentioned???

The Ruroc helmets seem more about making a statement with their style than offering any specific benefit.
I had a quick check on their site and they dont seem that light for carbon eg. the carbon Ruroc in a S/M is 1650g which is similar to a non carbon flip up touring helmet from Shark. and about 300g heavier than a Shark-Race R pro carbon sports helmet. A Shoei GT Air touring helmet is 1450g ish
If you shop around on places like Helmetcity.co.uk when they have a sale on you can often pick up last years colour scheme end of line models for huge discounts. I paid £300 for my Race-R pro carbon when they were £550 RRP back in 2015. They recently had some lovely Bell carbon helmets in the sale.

I bought one and my experience is very poor although it’s not the latest model.
The design looks fantastic and the shockwave built on Bluetooth Audio is a good idea but in reality the build quality is very poor in my experience and they are very noisy.
I want to root for the English company and genuinely want them to succeed but the broken promises in terms of delivery time and mixed with the poor build quality really has turned me off the brand.
I have a carbon one and it does genuinely look good but it took many months to get delivered to me after the website said available for immediate delivery. When the helmet didn’t turn up the delivery dates were changed but with no notification which meant I had to contact them to ask where it was to be told it would new x date, I can’t recall how many times it happened but it was about 3 times and the most annoying thing was I had no notification of delay or new delivery dates. This started my Ruroc experience very badly and after I asked for my order to be cancelled I was offered some token accessories and asked to hold on which I did.
The noise in the helmets (in the ones I’ve experienced) is really bad and then everytime you take it off the inner parts fall out which has caused me to nearly drop it several times and then have to faff to reattach the inner parts all of the time.
I suspect if they make it through a few more generations they will actually be quite good as they do appear to be improving but with every new helmet release seems to be more delays. I fear for Ruroc’s future as there’s a strong swell of disgruntled customers and many have questioned their financial health, the only positive content appears to originate from those they pay (chase-on-two-wheels et al) but even though my own experience was terrible I hope they turn it around and fix the operational/quality issues.

As ever, I appreciate the PH input!
My priorities are:
1. Carbon looks cool
2. Build quality
3. Weight
4. Comfort
Not necessarily in that order....
Sadly the Ruroc fails on point 3 & possibly on point 2.
I'm prepared to pay c. £450 +/-, so any recommendations for Bell??

I am on my second now, and my wife also has one.
You will get carbon version at that price point.

This has reminded me, I did offer one (Atlas 3.0) but it took so long for delivery (months!) I cancelled it!The design looks fantastic and the shockwave built on Bluetooth Audio is a good idea but in reality the build quality is very poor in my experience and they are very noisy.
