Help! How badly have I messed up my bike??
Discussion
I think I've been playing with things I shouldnt have touched...
929 Fireblade is known as having pretty poor FI mapping as it was the first one out, so not quite perfect. I bought a used Power Commander and fitted it the other day. Looked on the Dynojet website and downloaded what I thought was the right map. Put it on the bike and rode it for about 15 miles. During the ride the engine seemed to bog down a lot, especially towards the end of the ride, it didn't start especially well and has lost all it's low end torque when moving at slow speed and low revs. It was also running cooler than usual.
Came home and had a look on the Dynojet website and I had used a US bike map, rather than a European bike map. From looking at the maps it appears the US map has a lot more fuelling at lower revs than the EU map, and so I guess the bike has been running very rich, which would also explain the cool running. Put the correct map on the Power Commander but it hasn't sorted out the problems. It has new fuel and some injector cleaner in the tank as well in case the issue was a gummed up FI, as the previous fuel was quite old, although it had run on it fine recently. Is the engine potentially borked, or are there things I can do? I guess first thing is to change the spark plugs as they'll be no good? What else is possibly in need of attention, or should I just take it to a man who knows what they are doing?

Unlikely to have borked the bike or terminally hurt the plugs.
You could try loading a zero map and see whether that takes it back to as before. If that fails it still might be the PC so you could unplug it all and go for a ride.
If it’s the type that also alters the ignition timing then just try unplugging that bit (i.e. plug the bike back into itself) as it’s a weak signal on them.
Quite a lot of the 929’s problem is the very abrupt opening / closing of the exhaust valve (called HIVX on them?) at around 3000rpm. It was common practice on them to chuck loads of fuel in that rpm range to cover it up.

Yep, clean and dry the plugs. Remove the power commander, i'd even disconnect the battery for a while ( may do nothing, but no harm in trying everything).
929 is a reasonably simple bike. l killed mine years back, but 3 days of trying things got it running again. Impulse generator was soaking wet.

Ok thank you, will remove PC on Sunday, get the plugs out and dry them off. Hopefully it can go back to stock and then can work up from there.
The power commander is a well recommended upgrade for this bike, it's not unusual.
True. You can always add it back in once you've got it back to an even keel. The power commander is a well recommended upgrade for this bike, it's not unusual.
I think you've killed it, £50 cutting me on throat etc
.
Just remove the pc, run the bike and refit it or get a Dyno place to fit for you
It would need a lot of extra fuel to do any damage, you have probably been running with the equivalent of a really dirty air filter, would not worry about bore wash, where fuel washes oil off of the bore and causes accelerated wear

Just to thank all the people who commented, after replacing the map with the correct one, the bike was left for a few days and started fine next time. Took a little while to clear it's throat when warming up but once the excess fuel had burnt off it ran perfectly. Thankfully didn't have to take the plugs out. Phew!
