Just on here to moan!

Parked in my usual spot when I go to Mallaig.

There are no marked bike bays. Car park was full with cars circling looking for a space.
I am ok with the "Park in marked bays" rule as I don't like people parking badly and getting in the way.

However, I was not blocking anyone or anything. Well clear of the two electric vehicle spaces which were the only two free spaces.

I sent in my appeal and got a response within 2 hours. Highland Council's parking enforcement company are very efficient.

The offence is not parking in a marked bay - Guilty as charged.

Moan Moan Moan - £30 but offset by the toilet charging system being out of action. 30p saving there!

Great run to Mallaig. I would recommend it.
Just be careful where you park.

I'm sorry to hear this.

Just out of interest ...

Where are the marked parking bays for motorcycles or the signage clarifying how and where motorcycles should park?

Welcome to Scotland!

Unbelievable bit of petty council enforcement. Tourists not welcome (especially campervans closely followed by bikers) in that part of the country.

You blanked your plate for the picture. You can put a bag over your plate when you park. Parking enforcement persons cannot touch your bike.

if you were parked in breach of their regulations (so that they wished to issue a parking fine but couldn't do so due to the bag) surely that would constitute 'attempting to pervert the course of justice'?

I had the same argument with them.. no specific motorcycle rules in place.. should "park like a car" apparently.

I normally put the bike outside the CO-OP around the corner.

Great road to get there and back, hope that took the sting out of the ticket...

Maybe not. Is parking contractual or a legal thing?

Seems harshly unfair to me.
Come to SW Scotland D&G council are utterly useless, there's no enforcement of even the worst parking and it's a parking free for all.

Seems a perfectly reasonable, and considerate place to park. I too would have been extremely pissed off about that ticket.

Scots police their roads and their parking bays like the Swiss.

I live on the East coast and have been parking where I like for over 20 years, never had an issue with it. I think the increased tourism on the West coast has led to more draconian measures for parking being put in place.
Speeding however is treated much the same all over.

It's still not as bad as Switzerland!

Yeah I spend my days driving all over the place and parking in some interesting spots. Paid for parking maybe once or twice this year and only had one ticket.

I looked on Google maps at the road in and out of Mallaig after those few comments up top, looks amazing but how realistic is it to be able to stretch the legs of a bike on those road north of the border?

Even the street view car was in a big line of traffic, I'd love to do a bit of Scottish touring but not if it's all at 45mph.

It's easy to get into triple digits on that road...

Could be wrong, but always thought they were not enforceable in Scotland?

Parking tickets from the police or council are enforcable, parking tickets from private companies aren't.

You do need to be aware that due to the popularity of the NC500 and the amount of groups with fast cars of bikes that are intent on trying them out the level of policing during the tourist season is quite high.

Mid week in the off season you probably won't see many cars, let alone police cars.

Fortwilliam and Mallaig get very busy, the rest of the west coast isnt as bad. Or come and see the East coast, less spectacular views but a lot less traffic.

20 mph limits in lots of places around Perthshire, with lots of cardboard coppers chained to lamp posts. Fife seams to be the worst place for camera vans as well.

Don't know where you get that idea from but private companies CAN & do enforce parking restrictions throughout Scotland. Feel free to test the water though!
On private land in Scotland, only the driver (not the keeper) can be held liable and the keeper has no obligation to name the driver. To that extent parking tickets from private companies are not enforceable in Scotland.

Didn't the Transport (Scotland) Act 2019 do away with that Scottish 'loophole'?

Specifically Part 8: Recovery of unpaid parking charges, section 95: Right in certain circumstances to recover from keeper of vehicle

(1)The creditor has the right to recover any unpaid parking charges from the keeper of the vehicle.

The idea of touring around the U.K. when you could tour around continental Europe is totally does-not-compute to me. Sorry.
