Mallaig Parking Ticket
Discussion
Just on here to moan!
Parked in my usual spot when I go to Mallaig.
There are no marked bike bays. Car park was full with cars circling looking for a space.
I am ok with the "Park in marked bays" rule as I don't like people parking badly and getting in the way.
However, I was not blocking anyone or anything. Well clear of the two electric vehicle spaces which were the only two free spaces.
I sent in my appeal and got a response within 2 hours. Highland Council's parking enforcement company are very efficient.
The offence is not parking in a marked bay - Guilty as charged.
Moan Moan Moan - £30 but offset by the toilet charging system being out of action. 30p saving there!
Great run to Mallaig. I would recommend it.
Just be careful where you park.

You blanked your plate for the picture. You can put a bag over your plate when you park. Parking enforcement persons cannot touch your bike.
if you were parked in breach of their regulations (so that they wished to issue a parking fine but couldn't do so due to the bag) surely that would constitute 'attempting to pervert the course of justice'?Tye Green said:

Come to SW Scotland D&G council are utterly useless, there's no enforcement of even the worst parking and it's a parking free for all.

Scots police their roads and their parking bays like the Swiss.
I live on the East coast and have been parking where I like for over 20 years, never had an issue with it. I think the increased tourism on the West coast has led to more draconian measures for parking being put in place.Speeding however is treated much the same all over.
It's still not as bad as Switzerland!

I looked on Google maps at the road in and out of Mallaig after those few comments up top, looks amazing but how realistic is it to be able to stretch the legs of a bike on those road north of the border?
Even the street view car was in a big line of traffic, I'd love to do a bit of Scottish touring but not if it's all at 45mph.

It's easy to get into triple digits on that road...Even the street view car was in a big line of traffic, I'd love to do a bit of Scottish touring but not if it's all at 45mph.

Could be wrong, but always thought they were not enforceable in Scotland?
Parking tickets from the police or council are enforcable, parking tickets from private companies aren't.the cueball said:

Mid week in the off season you probably won't see many cars, let alone police cars.
Fortwilliam and Mallaig get very busy, the rest of the west coast isnt as bad. Or come and see the East coast, less spectacular views but a lot less traffic.

On private land in Scotland, only the driver (not the keeper) can be held liable and the keeper has no obligation to name the driver. To that extent parking tickets from private companies are not enforceable in Scotland.
Didn't the Transport (Scotland) Act 2019 do away with that Scottish 'loophole'?Specifically Part 8: Recovery of unpaid parking charges, section 95: Right in certain circumstances to recover from keeper of vehicle
(1)The creditor has the right to recover any unpaid parking charges from the keeper of the vehicle.
