Alpinestars Andes or Oxford Mondial jacket?
Discussion
Both are towards the 'budget' end but I need something quick and Hardy for my planned road trip.
I have a Dainese but it leaked so it's currently back at the manufacturer.
Which would you buy? Budget is upto 180 as I imagine Dainese will give me a replacement in a few weeks.
Theses a leftfield choice, a Richa Goretex Madison but it looks like it has no vents. No good for a European trip..

I agree with black-k1 about CE ratings. Unfortunately, the Andes and Mondial both score the lowest possible protection level (a single ‘A’). The Oxford Hinterland is AA-rated but costs £300.

Even AAA is pretty crap, it's just less crap than AA or A.I'm not an ATGATT person but, if I'm paying for and wearing bike gear, I want to be as sure as I can be that'll actually do a decent job sould I find myself parted from my bike.
I wore an Oxford Mondial in the south of France last year for two weeks. Kept me bone dry in a few thunderstorms whilst on the motorway and most importantly is nice and breezy with all vents open. No experience of crash worthiness thankfully but then I removed the back protector anyway so I wasn't overly concerned.
All textile kit apart from maybe Klim, will just keep the armour in place when you first hit the road and maybe one or two rolls afterwards, then you're on your own. The testing is pretty meaningless. The Klim jackets I looked at are much better built and tougher than anything else, to the point of being less comfortable and quite heavy.
I tried the Oxford Hinterland and would have bought it had the trousers not been designed for a clown with more bagginess than a wizards sleeve. The jacket was really well made, comfortable and sized really well and its a very good design. I'm considering buying one for a trip later this year where speed will be low.

Tbh I could always fit some of the armour parts that I have from another jacket...No personal experience of either but I had been considering the Mondial (still am), and noticed it had been chosen by the guy in the link below who is on a current round the world trip.

I used to sell bike kit and we sold loads of Andes suits and never had one back. Everyone that bought one seemed happy.
I’ve got the mondial jacket and think it’s great. I’ve had it 2 years now and had no problems. I’d definitely recommend it. I’ve no evidence but from the look of the labels, zips and how it’s designed it appears to either be designed by revit or made in a factory that makes revit kit as it’s all very similar.

I guess a few factories make a lot of companies’ clothing. Unless you buy one of the British bespoke brands (Scott Leathers, BKS Exmouth, Hideout), most other kit is made by the same (low wage) places overseas.Gassing Station | Biker Banter | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
