My wife and her father just bought an old Scott squirrel motorbike which seems to comprise mainly boxes of bits.

Anyway in one of the boxes I found this old copy of motorcycle mechanics magazine from December 1960.

It must have been right at the transition point before the complete demise of the British motorcycle industry.

One of the main features in the magazine is a special supplement on all the 1961 new models that will be appearing at The Motorbike Show.

In the supplement they list models from 16 manufacturers only four of which are non-british and none of them are Japanese.

Interestingly Honda do have a full page advert in the magazine and announce that they will be present at The Motorbike Show but the Editors didn't include Honda as one of the manufacturers in their supplement. I think it's a great example of how the British just didn't spot the Japanese threat as anything significant.

I have been riding bikes and maintaining them for 49 years and I have never done any mudguard maintenance ! You learn something new everyday.

I'm hoping A993LAD will take photos of the many pages covering the subject so that I can spend my Sunday maintaining mudguards.

I have a 1968 edition of this mag - it's totally absorbing reading! I love the way it was so accessible to modify one's bike, seemingly only with a hammer & a couple spanners. How things have changed.....

Maybe you should https://www.bardahl.nl/en/background/engine-oil/

I’d maybe check on the price. I suspect there may have been an increase or two.

Good spot sir and I see they have a UK office registered in Farnham.

I might just buy a postal order for the required amount and fill in the form and post it off.

Maybe the 1 gallon tin at 32/6 which I think is £1.62.5p?
