I've got an MT07 that needs an MOT and a service, a garage has quoted me £220 for a full service which includes checking everything over on the bike and £29 for an MOT.

They do a more basic service which is just oil change and air filter for £180 but I've booked it for the full one.

Since this is the first time I'm having a bike serviced i don't really know how much it usually costs.

Seems reasonable to me. I was charged £200 for a running in service on a grom which is only to change 0.9L of oil lol. I should have checked the price before I took it in!

Seems very reasonable. Is the service in alignment with the Yamaha service schedule?

entirely reasonable. Is that Yam dealer or indy? Indy's can be cheaper, my MT costs ~£150 for a typical service, budget more for plugs or valve check of course.

Sort of, the bikes only had its running in service in 2018 and nothing since then but I got with only 1800 miles a few months ago.

What is a "full service" from their point of view?

I've given up being shocked at dealers cutting corners for profit..

The full service is the Yamaha 6000 mile service plus them checking everything on the bike over. The garage is highly rated by everyone I've spoke to and their reviews are great (300 reviews 4.7/5)

It's not been used much, I think you're right getting it checked over and the price sounds reasonable.

The service schedule will coer both miles and elapsed time. Make sure that everything that should have been done because of time (brake fluid etc.) is being done.

Well a 6k service is basically checking over the bike anyway, so don't let them put that in as an extra..

It's in the handbook, it's a lot of "look at this" "check that" "lubricate these things".

The oil filter is not even on the list to get changed.

However, it states to change the brake HOSES every 4 years..

So that, plus replace air filter, engine oil, brake hoses and sync up the fuel injection.

So to me... that's not a FULL Service.. but it is a YAMAHA service per their schedule..

I’m going against the crowd and saying pay as little as you can to get a service stamp and educate yourself on the rest.

When someone has seen 100s of bikes as a job they either don’t care or miss stuff. It’s you riding the bike and facing the consequences of anything going wrong.

Bikes aren’t hard to check over or even work on.

I wouldn’t recommend relying on an annual service, regardless of how through, to be good for 12 months riding without checking the bike yourself in between.

Thanks everyone for the help. I think I'm going to have a full 6000 mile service and mot done just so I know the bikes been looked over once by a professional at least once and then after that I'll start learning how to do the maintenance myself.
