Hello all,

I have sena 50S mounted to my Scorpion helmet and have known for sometime that it has a 3.5mm headphone jack. To protect my hearing from excessive noise and still be able to listen to music, I would like to buy some low-profile earbuds, however, I've tried using various ordinary (Bose, Apple) lowish profile buds but find that none of them are very comfortable (Sena speaker presses against them).

I'm open to wireless options too if anyone can suggest a good set.

The Sena speakers work great at speeds below 50mph but at motorway speeds, I find that I have to turn the volume up to somewhere between 3/4 & max which can't be good for my hearing.

Thans in advance for any suggestions.

I use Shure SE215 earphones that work really well with a balaclava but can be a bit of a PITA without...adjust your lid in the wrong way or catch the wire and it can dislodge an earphone...

I have some of these and highly recommend them. They come with a short cable that plugs straight into my Sena unit.

If you're a tight wad, or want a stop gap whilst waiting for your ear moulds you should try these....

Not quite as good but great value and worked well for me.

Like the poster above, I use a pair of the soundear pro:

Connected to a Blitzwolf bluetooth module which I picked up from banggood.

Very happy with the setup. Never use the mic, so don't care about that personally.

This!

By far the best approach that will give you music and will also do the least damage to your ears is to use correctly positioned in-helmet speakers and always wear well fitted ear plugs.

Also, as an aside, if you ever do any Euro touring, it's worth noting that ear buds are illegal for use while riding/driving in many countries in Europe. While you're unlikely to be stopped as a resut of using ear buds, it will be just another thing for them to add to the list should you be stopped for something else.

I've looked into this recently and I'd not use anything that stood proud of the ear in case it got pushed into the ear in an accident, imagine the pain and possible hearing loss.

But I would consider the moulded ear plugs with a small speaker in them, if or when my packtalk stops working.

This exactly 3M from screwfix 200 pairs for £29.99! I find they work really well, did have an expensive set, wouldn’t even know where they were now.

I use Earpeace moto pro earplugs, absolute game changer, filters out all the unwanted noise and I can now hear music, satnav and intercomm perfectly at about 3/4 volume up to illegal speeds! Bloody clever stuff!!

I did look at this for a while but went the helmet speaker route. I have the Bose earbuds, which i didn't get on with so the wife now has them. I have the Sony WF-1000's now. But both are really too chunky to wear under a helmet.

I nearly got the Cambridge Audio melomania buds as they didn't seem to poke out too far?

Have yet to try them under a helmet though

I searched for low profile earphones to try and find some that worked.
The two pairs I already had either wouldn't stay in my ears or got pushed in and were not comfortable.
Bought these cheap things on amazon
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hearprotek-Lightweight-Silicone-Headphones-Relaxation/dp/B09QMC3SQ3/ref=sr_1_3?crid=2TCLW7L0KA0OG&keywords=Hearprotek%2BSleep%2BEarbuds&qid=1658757908&sprefix=hearprotek%2Bsleep%2Bearbuds%2Caps%2C116&sr=8-3&th=1
For the price they sound decent enough, with the background engine and wind noise it doesn't matter too much. They block out more sound than my earplugs do and most importantly, fit comfortably without pressure on my ears etc. May be worth a try??

Another vote for Shokz, you can have ear plugs, but still hear your music etc https://winstanleysbikes.co.uk/accessories/tech/he...

I've ordered the Plugfones twice - never received a pair. Going to try again after I move house and no longer have to deal with Brixton Royal Mail

I have a set of the UltimateEar Soundear Pro moulded bluetooth earphones as above but I don't really get on with them (too much of a faff and not great sound for the effort).
Most of the time I use a pair of cheapy bluetooth BeatsX in ear headphones. Battery life is fairly short but they cut out enough of the noise and are comfy under the helmet.

For trackdays I just use 3M foam moulded throwaway earplugs.

Same! Although I get on better with the 3M E-A-R Classics - the basic foam cylinder ones.

My Sena SRL2 speakers are absolutely ste to the 'naked ear', but with foam earplugs in it's a really surprising improvement in sound quality.

I have these, out of curiosity I've just tried them with my helmet on (Neotec 2) and they're absolutely fine, although mine does have quite deep recesses for the speakers which helps. Before I had the Shoei + Sena combo I used a pair of wired Bose QC20 which also worked well.

These are brilliant. Custom moulded to your lugholes, with/without cord. Designed for all applications, mainly industrial but caters for motorbike riders with noise filters and still permits intercom/speaker use and normal speech when off the bike. Not cheap but no more cheap plugs working loose. Customers include Alpine F1 factory staff, British Steel, Network Rail & others. They even have technicians on the road to come & take the moulds at work/home.
