This is the rear wheel of my Transalp 700 - I'm assuming it's knackered and needs replacing. You can see in two places where the wheel has broken around the spoke. I've heard of this being a problem on these bikes.

No comments about how dirty it is, it gets used a fair bit and doesn't get washed much! Passed the MOT in April, so it was either ok then or got missed.

Any chance of a repair, or is it just replace?

A repair would IMHO be a new rim, assuming the hub is not in the same state.

Long time since I've done it, but I expect there are still plenty of places rebuilding trials/MX/classic wheels on new rims?

OTOH, always worth seeking a good wheel from a breaker.

I had this on my 600 - got a mint wheel from German Ebay for £250. It looked new tbh, I presume less rain and less salt on roads?

It'll be an even worse sight once you take the tyre off.

Quite common with Honda (DID) rims, had this on XR400 and CRM250, by the time you see it on the surface it's too late.

Worth investing in a new rim, possibly spokes too but ensure all us good at hub end too.

An update on this - thanks for all the responses.

I ordered a used wheel from Italy on Ebay. It arrived a couple of days ago and is in really good condition. Haven't fitted it yet as I haven't had time, just need to swap my brake disc onto it. It has a half decent tyre already on it too, so will use that for now.

Costs all together - Wheel with tyre, postage, etc. came to £200.

Fab stuff, the european roads seem to be less harsh for sure!
