Aftermarket Cans
Discussion
I have just bought a GPZ500 from a colleague as a first bike and think the standard exhausts look crap. I was wondering if the aftermarket cans you can get will affect my insurance too much if they increase the power slightly. The GPZ has twin cans and I know that you can get a few hp more on a bike with a single can so does it go double for a bike with 2?

Recomend you stick with standard because;-
a) cost of 2 new cans = 300 quid for maybe 5bhp more
b) winter salt will spoil the look
c) a winter "spill" will wreck one or other of them
d) wait until you get bored with the bike, sell it on, and buy something faster. eg, cbr6, sv650, or zx6.
Seriously, if you're like me, your first bike won't be your last. Give it 6 months. I regret buying race cans every time. Oh, and add a VDRN and possibly a record on the PNC....

Denny, think I ddid - was it the pictures of how to install a flip plate?
Race cans = noise = nicking. Just my thoughts. I'd sooner make more noise in a lower gear with the standard can. By being in the next lower gear, but 2000 rpm higher, you make 10 or more bhp anyway.
You're right about the looks though. Most standard cans look big & clumpy.

HI carl , ive been having problems with e mail but i think its sorted now , i think im going to get the road legal version of the race can ive got cant afford to keep attracting the attenion of at the mo hence the bikes on the standard can , you can feel a difference though the bike feels strangled by the standard can compared to the race version
