The Tasteful Modification Thread
Discussion
I thought I'd start a thread were people can post their latest aftermarket mods as these sometimes get lost in the 'picture a day' thread or elsewhere. Handier to peruse, making mental shopping lists as well. Although it may fall flat on its arse.
Any modification goes, from suspension, to brakes, to gel seats or carbon anything really. But keep it tasteful, the first person to post up mini indicators, anodised tat or wavy discs will be rightfully mocked.
Anyway, these came today after I bought them at Knockhill on Saturday.
A Hel radial conversion kit for my 98 ZX6R, bloody reasonable price too. On top of the discount they flung in an entire set of braided lines as my Goodridge dual ones wouldn't fit.

I fitted neat black anodized fluid reservoirs for the brakes, to replace the plastic urine sample pots that came as standard. Subtle, but much nicer - especially as the front one in particular is highly visible even when riding.
I also fitted LED indicators. Not the ridiculously tiny ones flashing at 2x normal speed but still barely visible, just neater and more modern looking than the big incandescent type.

how it started. not my bike as i don't have a pic of it unmolested. it was literally mint and bone stock including the mirrors, tail unit, reservoirs etc.
i first started changing things to sort out what i saw as being true flaws in the bike. namely the ride quality [sorted ably by maxton f&r, with full setup by a current moto2 tech], the low end lumpiness [sprocket & 520 conversion, improved ignition and breathing, 02 sensor delete, then a remap by aforementioned tech] and rider comfort [new custom profiled & connolly wrapped seat and gilles rearsets].
i hate the insect look and the monster is a particularly crap incarnation of it complete with a crap headlight and useless bikini fairing, so that got ditched for a motodemic round headlight casing but not their crappy LED unit, bought a decent one from VisionX instead. also has a short motodemic flyscreen. result being much better lighting, notably better wind protection up to a ton, and imo much better looking to boot.
i guess the only other functional mods were the braided lines, lithium battery, domino quick throttle and gilles grips & levers. the rest stands here to challenge the definition of tasteful. i could list it all, but it wouldn't help my case to do so, albeit it now weighs in under 170kg fuelled and rides miles better than stock, so gimme that at least.
ETA: i just had a factorypro shift detent arm, spring and ceramic bearing fitted though haven't ridden it yet so can't comment if it improves matters.

Interested in a Monster myself, and going to move to Scotland so will need a good headlamp. Why did you go for the combo you did? i first started changing things to sort out what i saw as being true flaws in the bike. namely the ride quality [sorted ably by maxton f&r, with full setup by a current moto2 tech], the low end lumpiness [sprocket & 520 conversion, improved ignition and breathing, 02 sensor delete, then a remap by aforementioned tech] and rider comfort [new custom profiled & connolly wrapped seat and gilles rearsets].

Hi,
Where in Scotland? The company I work for is based nr loch lomand / trossachs and it’s brilliant for biking out there.
I bought the headlight bucket and brackets secondhand in dubai, came with 3 led light units but all of them were useless so I started googling and the visionx unit seemed to be the best available.
This is the one I have:

I ride weekends and nighttime in Dubai which means to have an enjoyable blast you go outside of the city on long sweeping roads through the desert. With pitch black sky, poor streetlights and a flat dark empty landscape being able to see when you are giving it some is critical. I’ve gone out riding at night before now and hit a speed bump in the middle of nowhere at 120 and it wasn’t fun to say the least!
I found the specs of the visionx to be the best available at the time. Dunno if anything newer is better, and it is expensive at $380, but It is worth it.

Hi shirt, Milngavie, so very NW corner of Glasgow. I'm currently in London where it's an hour's ride to anything approaching a decent road, so very much looking forward to it.
I can't imagine riding in Dubai. When I lived in Sharjah driving standards were a disgrace and I doubt they've improved - so I see the need for the good headlamp and the Termis. Do they still have random sleeping policemen everywhere?
I've also done some fieldwork in Oman - and did a lot of roads in a Land cruiser that would be amazing on a bike. Been there?

I had the same on my old CB1000R, the change shaft isn’t that well supported at that end, so it flexes and binds in the seal which means the changes are a bit stiff/notchy.I fitted a Gilles tooling one which had a needle roller in it to support the change rod and it definitely helped as I noticed I could provoke a false neutral or two when riding hard.
