Hello Folks,

I've got the opportunity to get a well priced 650cc bike via a friend.

About to book my lessons/tests, it'll be first bike for me (on the road at least).

It'll mostly be used around the city I know well, but as soon as I venture further afield, I'm hopelessly reliant on sat nav when driving cars. And I normally use my phone either on a mount or via apple car play etc.

What are the best solutions for bikes?

Cheers,

HBT

Hello,

Depends on what you want to spend.

At the cheap end of the scale, get a tank bag with a map/phone holder

Mid tier : I went with a powered Quad Lock system. So I can use my phone without it draining the battery. If you just want to get some where quickly, then use Waze/Google maps.

However, sometimes you may want to follow a particular route, in which case I started a thred, here, asking about particular apps.

Expensive tier: get a dedicated bike unit, which is powered from the bike.

With Waze having the additional option to specify routes for motorcycles (which is nice until you go somewhere in the car and have forgotten to switch it back, then realise and find out your journey is going to take much longer than you thought).

Find a phone holder suitable for your needs

I use a Bike tec mini bag like a bum bag that goes onto the bars and keep my phone, visor cleaner etc in there

I then you Detecht for twisty routes and good ol google avoiding motorway for quicker journies

Have a USB on the dash to keep it all charged

Quad lock and ultimate addons seems to be the two most used

They aren't cheap - there are cheaper options but IME they aren't great (ie zipped vinyl cases etc)
