Hi All,

I'm selling my Suzuki Gsx-s 1000 as I'm looking for something more fun at respectable road speeds.

I'll still need it to commute to work 30 miles each way on A-roads. That rules out something like a 690smcr.

I quite like the idea of the middleweight adventure bikes.

Has anyone managed to have a go on the new Tuareg 660? There's a lack of demo bikes around me for a test ride.

I am not sure exactly where you are in Devon but I was in Moto Corsa in Gillingham, Dorset two weeks ago and they were running a demo in Martian Red and had new Martian Red and Acid Gold bikes in stock. I didn't test ride it as I only stopped for a coffee but I thought it looked good value for money and was bigger than I expected as the Tuono 660 feels quite small.

I was tempted by a tuono 660 factory, however at just over 6ft I found it a bit tight in the leg area for what I'm after.

I've placed a deposit on a Tuareg now at £9499 in Martian Red. Fingers crossed I've not made a mistake smile

I was on a similar path to you, sold a MT10 in search of something a little less antisocial, I decided on a tenere 700, it was surprisingly capable and fun on the roads but after I’d done all the local green lanes a dozen times I got a little bored and swapped it for a KTM 1090 adventure as it’s a little more road focussed. Not looked back since.

The aprilia gets good reviews and you certainly don’t see many of them. Look forward to your thoughts.

Congratulations on the new purchase.
I had a good look around one of these at my local dealer when mine was in for a service and they are a great looking bike.

If I was in the market for this style of bike one of these would be very high up on my list.

Looks great, I’m tempted to track my zx6r and buy something like this to go along side it.

Seen one… never ridden one… but my spider sense says great choice. Congratulations!

Really like these. A much better bike than the Yamaha T7 from what I’ve seen. Good choice I suspect.

After the first 100 miles I can confirm it's a hoot.

It's fantastic on the rough b roads of Devon, engine has plenty of torque and makes a cracking noise. Handles great, especially considering the 21 inch front.

Suspect adding some compression more compression damping and would improve it further. I'll look to change the tyres as I won't be taking it off road. Seems to be the perfect bike for my commute.

I had considered a tuono 660, but at 6ft 1 and long legged, I'm glad of the extra space.

I'm keen on these. I really enjoyed the Tenere 700 when I rode it, but this thing looks like its a bit more polished with a bit more power. I doubt i'd take it off road though, so not sure whether I should just go look at road focused stuff with 17 inch wheels instead. OP, did you consider/test any others prior to purchase?

I tested the Tenere 700 and Triumph Tiger Sport 660 prior to the Aprilia.

The Tenere suspension I found worse than the Aprilia, plus it's a very basic bike (a plus for some). Also as the Aprilia was discounted they were the same price which made the Tuareg a no brainer.

The Triumph just left me a bit cold to be honest, perfectly nice bike to ride but it just didn't do it for me looks wise. I owned a 2013 street triple r previously so I couldn't bring myself to pay £10k for something that has pretty much the same engine in a detuned form.

If Aprilia had a 19 or 17 inch front wheel option I would have taken that. But to be honest I don't feel like the 21 inch front holds me back at all, first bike I've had with a 21 inch front too.

It's even better with a slip on can, sounds brilliant now.

Yes it's brilliant. I've made a few alterations, puig touring screen, mistral end can.

Also added an extra tooth on the front sprocket to drop the revs slightly on the motorway, doesn't harm the acceleration much and I don't need the low first gear for off road.

Over 2000 miles now, have used the bike far more than any of my previous bikes, which I think says it all.

I did see on a few reviews that they said the low gearing meant it was a bit buzzy at speed.
