Hi all,

Advice needed please?

I have put a deposit on a pre registered bike.
It’s two years old but brand new.
I have looked as insuring and taxing the bike and it has come back a different colour and spec on the DVLA / comparison sites.
The dealer said this would need to be changed when I purchase the bike. (But found out after agreeing the deal)
Also the dealer said they would honour a warrantee (as factory one has run out) but I have not been sent paperwork detailing to what it covers.
I live quite a long way from this dealer. Unsure what to do.
I don’t feel comfortable having a new bike with a colour change on the ref docs. Could make for a harder 2nd hand sale when the time comes.
Thoughts please.

Can you clarify 2 years old and brand new? Do you mean no miles?

What make/model? What does it show up as?

If the dealerr is saying they will honour the warranty but it is out of manufacturer warranty, do you want to return it to the distant dealer if it has an issue? No paperwork would make me v nervous.

All sounds extremely iffy and would be making me stop and think.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.

Yes pre registered and zero miles.
Out of the manufacturers warrantee period.
Dealer said he would honour a warrantee and resolve any problems romotly with a local garage to me but has not put it in writing.

It’s a Honda, registered as black when it is actually white. It’s a plus model but when going to insure it it comes up as a base model.

Kind tregards,

Andy.

It’ll probably be fine, however I’d compare the price with low mileage bikes the same age. Does a couple of thousand miles put you off?
Mainly because you’re likely to be paying a premium now that you won’t get back when it comes time to sell it.

Colour change is odd, I had one bike that they’d swapped all the painted parts over because a customer wanted white but they only had new black ones so they agreed to swap everything from their demo onto it. As a result I bought the demo with 2k miles but brand new paintwork, it made no difference otherwise.

Essentially id be weighing up if it’s worth the potential hassle, how long do you intend to keep it? Are you going to loose more money when it comes time to sell.? How much backup are they really going to give you if something goes wrong with it?

I assume it has been registered which started the clock ticking on the manufacturer warranty ? That’s normally triggered by sale date, not manufacture date?

On the model issue, I’ve had this with a KTM enduro bike, it was registered as a six days model despite being a standard bike. I haven’t actually corrected the V5 (didn’t realise it was possible but will investigate now) and does cause issues with insurance etc as all the insurers see the details as a Six Days model with higher insurance costs. Some won’t have a discussion about that description being wrong.

I’d just want the deal to be good enough to be satisfied it’s worth the risk of any aggravation you have.

Hi all,

Thanks for the constructive comments.
Yes was registered two+ years ago.

I’m thinking it will look odd to change the colour after two years, this may cause questions when coming to sell it compared to a bike registered correctly.

Have you asked the dealer? I'm nosey now!

Colour, remember it us a generic Dvla colour name and not the actual colour. I may say grey and be a metallic green/brown etc.

Spec. Lots of bike models are upgraded by the dealer fitment of accessories. Kawasaki GT models are all dealer fitted with luggage, grips etc but are otherwise the same. What model is it?

Have you got a reg no? I will hpi it to see what details are there.

Have they mixed the plate up with another bike by accident? Sounds odd to have a colour change.

Anyway, it doesn't sound squeaky clean enough to be worth bothering with, buy a lightly used one instead imho.

Unless the dealer gives you get a written warranty (to the same standards as the manufacture's original ?) their verbal reassurance is worthless.

I'm wondering why it has sat there for 2 years unsold??

There are also a number of other questions for me....

Why the colour change? Why don't they correct this ahead of a sale if it's that easy?

Warranty, I suspect if you had any warranty issues it would need to be resolved by them, as you're not local how will that work, and what will the warranty cover, this needs to be resolved and fully understood.

Will they be servicing the bike ahead of collection, brake fluid will have possible water absorption by now, what about any fuel in the tank that will be stale, finally I'm guessing the battery will be shot?

Are you happy riding around on 2+ year old tyres, probably not a big one but again something to consider.

It all feels a bit hard and too much hassle for what should be a nice time getting a new bike.

Is it a super special golden saddle model or something.. or saving 000's over list price??

i.e... it is really worth all this hassle for a Honda?

No offence meant, I have 2 of them for my sins.. hehe
