Was starting to realise I wasn't using the R1 as much because it was just hard work through town after a long day's riding.

Got an MT10. It's bloody brilliant. The only downside aside from the smallish tank range (not as bad as some say), is a slight loss of front end feel from not being so over the front end (not helped by squared off tyres), but my god, I can see why supernakeds are so popular - they just make so much sense on the road.

Cruise control is absolutely brilliant, quickshifter is gratuitous fun, and even I can wheelie this thing. Lovely smooth fuelling all the way through, brilliant LED headlights, full luggage... it just does everything. I will probably get a nicer looking exhaust in due course but as is, it sounds fantastic, goes like hell, and is comfortable after a full day's riding. I even like the looks. What more could you want?

One R1 up for sale.

Quite an endorsement.. All 5 of my bikes are sport bikes, and longer rides have been getting harder on the wrists (I also suffer with a back issue). Maybe I am missing something here? scratchchin

I recently bought a bike with cruise control… it’s an absolutely brilliant rider aid; a game changer for cruising / motorway work. MT looks good!

I loved my MT10, again, swapped from a R1.

With regards to the front end, I couldn’t find any confidence in it, in the end I dropped the front by about 10mm and change bars to a lower riser, doing this as well as putting some Pirelli rosso corsa 2’s on there made a massive difference.

+1 for dropping the forks down a bit. I dropped mine 10mm and it made a huge difference to the front end feel and turn in. Another good and cheap mod is to fit the radial Master from an R1. Mine cost £60 and gives the brakes a bit more feel.

Excellent choice!

I keep thinking of flogging mine, but then have a little ride and think ‘not yet’.

Thanks for the tips above on dropping the forks - it needs new tyres anyway so I will do that first and see how I get on. And maybe give the suspension a twiddle, too.

Definitely try one out! It's going to make me ride so much more than I would otherwise, cos it's just so accessible and so FUN! Honestly this thing makes me laugh out loud like nothing else I've ridden.

They’re worth getting mapped too, I had a woolich map done on mine, really transforms the throttle response and gives a very impressive increase in the midrange.

Cat’s been done so possibly already remapped.

The rear rack seems to fit in with the MT-10 design from that photo.

I like these but find distance at a pace is problematic with it being ‘naked’ where as my trusty old Blackbird suffers little in the way of buffeting just a drop heavy on the wrists.

Have you ridden one? The MT10 in my opinion is the best naked for lack of wind, buffeting.

Snap. Also available on old MT-09, it is a great colour combo imo.

What else is there though? I was originally thinking of the KTM SDGT but the insurance was mad, and I think the MT10 is the more rounded package anyway. And this engine...

It hasn't been remapped actually - I have read good things about Woolich so might go down that route when I change exhaust although I have to say the fuelling is pretty faultless at the moment - completely smooth right from the bottom.

Yeah, I am keeping it on to save the faff of putting it on and off every time I need to use the topbox (for pillions basically), and it doesn't actually look too bad!

Agreed, I've not ridden many nakeds, but I did 800 miles on this last weekend and was absolutely fine. It's actually a hell of a lot better than my old V-Strom, as the air is much "cleaner" so there's no actually buffeting, just your head getting pushed back a little at motorway speeds+. It's also completely stable at motorway speeds, and as above, cruise control is an absolute god send. I've also got the touring screen to fit as well, but think I might keep it nekked.

Hello! Long time no speak. I'm still here! Should definitely do another Essex ride soon. I was up at Finch yesterday and the roads are decent at the moment.

I thought I was due a name change, and chose this in homage to the colour of the GR86 I ordered smile

I removed my touring screen and sold it - far too noisy.

I’m 6’2” though. Can’t remember your height, 5’11”?? Might get away with it.

As for alternatives, I’d probably not get something directly comparable. Possibly a GS or RS. Though I’m sure a test ride would put me off using them to commute. I’m also sometimes drawn towards oddities like the TDM900.

I really need a bigger garage so I can have a the dirt bikes, a track bike, a commuting/general bike and something more touring focused.

I'm not that short biggrin But yeah, from the look of it, it probably won't be much help
