Insurance costs
Discussion
4 years away means starting all over again with no claims bonus.
When my ex wife looked into insuring a normal little car after 6 years of not having one, her premium was 5 times what I was paying for something a lot more powerful.
That's why I keep a cheap small bike insured and taxed.
Even if I don't use it, it's worth it to keep my NCB.
Good luck, I'm the same age

Its the 4 years away ... for insurers the first 2 years of on road experience count most for people coming back to riding, regardless of age and experience. 2 years NCB will nearly halve the premium.
I was more wondering why devitt think that, but all the others don't. I expected to take a hit from losing my ncd, but most don't seem bothered.
I would have asked my previous insurer if they could do anything given my history , but sadly that was mce :-(
I had a 6 year gap then bought a Street Triple when I was 46.
Quotes, in London parked on street, were from £9,995 (I kid you not) right down to loads at £1,500.
I was shocked. After many days of searching I found a company that wanted £800. It halved after a year.

I expect a range, but 450 is ridiculous IMHO, for a royal enfield interceptor.
Glad I'm not young :-)
You've not missed anything and your not naïve at the young age of 60? my last household insurance renewal was £700, i eventually gave in and cancelled it, new quote £150. Its how life works now including your car/ van insurance but you should get this at your age. Glad I'm not young :-)

But hey, be a big man and have a dig, you've probably got nothing better to do.

I worked in insurance, I know how it works, was just surprised about the big discrepancy.

I have lots of things better to do but just surprised you find the price difference unusual with regards to insurance. have a nice evening But hey, be a big man and have a dig, you've probably got nothing better to do.
Different insurers have different views about all sorts of things, bikes, postcodes, occupations.
Some meerkat quotes include big excesses, some quotes include extras like helmet cover, breakdown.
Some cheap quotes torch you if you move house or change bike.
Sometimes insurers don't really want your business because they are up to quota in a market sector as they see it.

I moved flats within the estate I live on. My car remained in exactly the same residents parking place yet the insurance company wanted another £100 on top of the admin charge. Some meerkat quotes include big excesses, some quotes include extras like helmet cover, breakdown.

Thankfully I got through to someone sensible on the phone who had a look at Google maps and agreed that it was daft. They didn't charge in the end.

Are you just using comparison sites?
Your time off bikes is purely a yes/no online where you might have better results by phoning them and speaking to a human.
More fool me perhaps, but I’d rather pay an extra quid or two than have an actual conversation with someone from an ins co.Your time off bikes is purely a yes/no online where you might have better results by phoning them and speaking to a human.
