Just got my bike out of post-Covid storage and tried to book an MoT at MTC Reading where I have been going for many years. Shocked to discover it's closed down.

Does anyone know what happened? They were great guys.

Nothing on Google giving the exact reason (and Companies House is currently throwing a server issue so can't check) so my guess would likely be retirement based on the age of the business.

In any case it looks like the site was purchased during 2020 and then sold for potential re-development.

Edit - Companies House working again - confirmed dissolved December 2020, but the process started early 2020 by the looks of it. I'd still suggest owner retiring, maybe with the decision to do so spurred on by when the pandemic kicked off.

Now another mini supermarket specialising in products for the local community. Not that the Ocky Rd really needed another one of those !

TopTest MOT in Deacon Way is where all our bikes go.

Looking at google street map it changed from MTC to a supermarket around October 2020 (building work in progress).

Blimey - I remember MTC (well - I think I do). Not sure I ever used them though when I was living in that area (doesn't mean I didn't, it was about 15 years ago)

Good to see that 'Motorcycle Parts Centre' a bit further up are still going.

Any recommendations for an alternative to MTC in Reading? Good for basic work on an old Kawasaki plus MoT.

I THINK they moved/sold their stuff to someone on Llovelock Road. BM&CC or something?

My favourite garage disappeared over Covid too sadly (Galloway Motorcycles).

I used Baltech for my MOT last July. Seemed a good little outfit.

Got my bike service at MJ Motorcycle earlier this year. Mainly as Baltec don't open on Saturdays and I couldn't fit in dropping my bike off in the week. They seem to service every scooter courier in Reading judging by the roaring trade going on. Eastern European bloke runs it. Speaking on the phone I was slightly dubious, but once I met him really liked him and happy with the service. 2006 ZX6R, so I think they can handle an old Kawasaki!

I've used this lot for MOT and service once. Bit of an odd bunch.

Reading doesn't seem very well served for bike servicing these days

Shame about MTC, they were pretty good. Sadly also Smith's of Whitley wood shut down a few years back as well
For an MOT etc near reading I recommend SB engineering in woodcote, Sean is great.
