DT175 - 1979 - Plug colour
Discussion
The guy I bought my DT from knew a bit about two strokes, having rebuilt more than a few KH triples. He reckoned I should raise the throttle needle clip one notch as he thought it was running a bit rich in mid throttle. So what do you make of this…. Looks very slightly darker than I expected. Normal, bit rich, no way to know with modern fuels?!
Thanks.

That doesn't look like it has any problems.
But there are detailed guides for inspecting plug condition to determine running conditions.
It looks a bit darker than what you'd expect from a very modern engine. There's no speckles on the insulator. There's no rounding of the electrode. Not sooty or oily.

It's a 2 stroke. There will be a bit of oil in the equation, making plug colour a bit less reliable.
But that looks OK to me.
I'd be happy with 'slightly' rich at part throttle, that's the risk zone for seizing, on a bike like a 175, you'll hold a fair bit of throttle at steady speed on a main road, unless you're hooning you won't hold full throttle.
