Street Triple New (18) v old (12)
Discussion
Anyone have back to back experience of the older 2011/12 triple R v the new ish 2018 RS?
Night and day or same same?
Was all set to buy an 18 plate RS, but it's an 8hr drive away, and not keen to buy remotely.
But now a nice 2012 R has popped up just down the road for half the price and has me wondering if I really "need" the newer bike.
Sure the tft is prettier, the quick shift is nice and it's a bit faster, but would I really miss much from the newer bike if I just bought the local oap?!
Plus it would leave cash for a 2nd bike! ??

I had a 14 R for a couple of years, loved the bike, put nearly 20k miles on it, part ex’d that in for a 17 RS, I had that bike for 6 months, no fault of the bike I just needed to money so it got sold.
I then was in the market for another street with an open budget and I went for a 16 R, for me there is a rawness about the older 675’s that I really enjoy, the 765 was good but I never really took to it, handling is pretty close between the two, rhe 765, does have the better brakes though.
If I was to buy another street (as I do like them a lot) it’d be an older 675 R.

Interesting! I'm going from one decision to the other... Lack of ABS and TCS is currently putting me off the 2012 though, didn't come in until 2013 I believe.Whilst I've never needed ABS, its definitely a nice safety feature to have "just in case", especially on a bike.
Hmmm. First world problems!

Could you not go for a 13+?
The abs is nice to have, as is the traction, though it doesn’t really need it as it has so much grip and has great feedback.
Yeah that's an option but nothing local which was what was so tempting about the 2011.The abs is nice to have, as is the traction, though it doesn’t really need it as it has so much grip and has great feedback.
Impatient for a new bike with the great weather we've had!
IMO if you have to have the latest thing - fair enough but for the last 20+ years it's very much evolution rather than revolution and for the average rider, on the road, there is very little difference between models unless you "need" a certain feature eg ABS
I'd rather have two older bikes with different characters (well I'd rather have 6+)

I’ve had both, a 12 plate 675R and then went to 18 plate 765RS. Loved my R and really got me into loving bike riding after a couple of bikes I didn’t gel with after passing my test. A great bike, all you need for the road and very capable.
I got my 765RS and it was all very familiar but just better in every single way. Suspension, power, brakes, feel etc. At 6k revs the bike would take off again and keep pulling hard till redline. I don’t think there is a better bike in that middleweight sector at that price point.
You won’t be disappointed with either, but you’ll notice the development differences should you ride both. But at half the price, it isn’t half the bike, buy the 12 plate, buy the OEM quick shifter, chuck that on and pocket the change for another bike and some carbon goodies

Well, after much deliberation I went with a great deal on an '18 RS.
Loving it! Pulls great even in 6th.
Sure the older bike would have been grand too though, thanks for the opinions team.
Lovely thing, even more so because of the new light setup. Do you know what it is? Oh, and more pics please!Loving it! Pulls great even in 6th.

Never could really take to the look of the bug eye lights after the original round ones.
