Am flying out of Heathrow this week.
I would like to take the bike. Am only going away for a few days so its a hand luggage job - but my normal cabin sized wheelie bag is not going to strap on very easily.
Anyone have any recommended / genius luggage solutions for this situation - something which will strap on the bike but also work ok for the subsequent planes / trains / automobiles?

Ruck sack?

Patagonia MLC, they do a 25L and 45L

Good travel bags, water resistant and not so high at the back you cant wear with a helmet and ride a bike. (well I know the 25L is fine to ride with)

They are I think designed to meet carry on requirements as well. 25L all and the 45L on some.

I have the 25L, and use it all round. Its my laptop bag, my travel bag and occasionally motorbike ruck sack. Bought it after finding I couldnt ride with my Osprey with a helmet on.

Also work out of Heathrow and used to commute by bike and then go away for a few days. I used a Marmot roller bag. 40 litres-ish is a sweet spot for getting on the bike without being too obtrusive. Waterproof too. Think north face duffel but with wheels…

It was easy to bungee to the seat, but that was with a top box, which it could bungee back against. No top box it might’ve been a bit harder.

Take a lock - thefts not unknown, and there’s metal railings to chain to if you go to the motorbike parking (depending upon which terminal…)

Surely the problem is not so much the bag, but what to do with all your riding gear whilst you're away?

But with a 2+ hour queue to security it was a total PITA - make sure yours has rollers !

there was a video of a pillion holding a wheeled suitcase riding down the motorway pulling it behind them - i guess you could zip tie the handle to the rear subframe and off you go biggrin

i think my only issue would be standing in a queue for potentially a number of hours in bike gear - public transport on this occasion looks favourite
