That doesn't cost a huge amount.

I've come across the Dainese Tempest, anything else?

I can't afford Rukka!

My first wet ride today and within 20mins my supposedly waterproof Oxford textile was soaked.

It will be terrible come winter rain..

Cheapest is a waterproof over coat.

I had a similar experience with my Spada textile jacket 12yrs ago. There are obviously different definitions of 'waterproof'.

It's not cheap cheap, but Dane clothing is very good and less than half the price of Rukka

I've got a Dane goretex pro jacket that was £500ishand it perfectly waterproof and I use it nearly everyday to commute to work

Buy a new combo: a summer mesh jacket with protection built in PLUS a good quality 10,000mm+, slightly stretchy waterproof jacket to go over the top.

Summer mesh from £150? ish
Outdoor shell jacket jacket from £45

If you're regularly on the pies you might struggle, I'm a medium/large in my summer jacket but I need a 3XL for the waterproof shell to get over the shoulder/elbow pads.

And can it be 'breathable' please?

Sailing kit is comically expensive until you look at top-end motorbike clobber.
I guess my Typhoon drysuit would be a poor choice for sliding down the road, but it's waterproof beyond what bike kit makers can understand.

If you are riding regularly in the wet you want a bonded waterproof membrane rather than a drop liner. Better still, goretex pro is on the outside, so the fabric doesn't soak up loads of water - lighter, warmer and quicker to dry.

If you're not planning to ride in the rain a lot, putting a shell over your jacket is by far the cheapest option as others said. I even commuted with a shell and £10 overtrousers over leathers for quite a few years, it was fine.

I got that jacket mainly for winter riding to make myself slightly more visible, but it’s really warm and has kept the rain out 100% so far.

£25 is a steal IMO and sits nicely over my Rukka jacket.

Got the trousers to match for dog walking duties too… hehe

Richa Rain Warrior if you just need an over jacket/trousers

So today I tried on a £1300 Rukka jacket. Oh my it was sooooooo nice. Really nice. Sadly its beyond my reasonable means. However the Rukka Start-R is 295 from Germany.

Sailing kit might be worth a look. Wasn’t cheap but I’ve been using mine over bike leathers, for skiing etc & haven’t given other waterproof kit a thought because it just works so well.

Used example here https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/175173020279?hash=item2...

I've got Richa rain warrior gear that I put on over my normal textiles. Can't fault it for the price. The jacket has been worn pretty much every day during the last three winters and it is still water tight.

I've got a old Musto inshore BR2 but the hood is substantial which would interfere with the helmet/cause water to gather however...... a offshore BR2 with rollaway hood...

A cheap (and likely oversized) waterproof jacket over
your normal "waterproof" textiles is probably the cheapest option to try, seeing as the textile gear has a degree of waterproof-ness anyway, but I reckon it's the seams that cause the most problems, with the water being basically forced in under pressure.

I also used to use a hi-vis builder's jacket (the kind with a removable hood and insulated lining) over my leather jacket which seemed to work fairly well but only for winter though.

Sod it. BR2 offshore bought. I can use it for anything and everything plus I still have a Dainese mountain bike use pressure suit for winter I can use under it..

I'll keep looking out for Rukka also used but boy even the tired jackets get alot of attention.

Any textile jacket and a can of this.

Bone dry in a £180 IXS textile jacket (that had been washed) and RST jeans in a full hour of torrential rain at "fk this I want to get home" speeds.

I’m sorry it was soaking (we’ve all been there with supposedly waterproof clobber). Which Oxford textile was it?
